Houston Rockets player Julius Erving attended high school here while he played college basketball at Baylor University and then coached his own team at UTSA before becoming an assistant coach with the Boston Celtics in 1984-85 under Rick Majerus

The Waddells had two daughters who would later start businesses in their own right: Lula Fenton Hargrave opened her dress shop on Main Street in 1907 and Alice Cunningham opened her candy store on First Avenue just east of Interstate 35E in 1912-13. During World War II, Round Rock played an important role as a military base for the United States Air Force because it was close to major population centers such as Dallas and Houston. After the war ended, many residents moved away fromRoundRock because they found its high crime rates unacceptable. However, some residents decided to keep their homes while they renovate them or purchase new ones; this resulted in what is known today as "The Downtown renaissance." The first Anglo-American settlers in Round Rock, Texas were the McLennan brothers, who arrived in 1836. The town was founded by Colonel James Fenton on a tract of land that he donated to the government for the purpose of developing it as a military post. By 1840, Round Rock had become one of the most important centers of cattle ranching in Texas. It was also an important port for goods and passengers traveling between Victoria and Austin. In 1846, Round Rock became the capital of Texas when New Mexico seceded from Mexico and declared its independence. The city's growth continued during the Mexican-American War (1848-1849), when troops from both sides stationed in Round Rock helped supply Santa Anna's army with food and ammunition. During this time, many local businesses were destroyed or taken over by warlords or other militias looking to bolster their own positions. After Mexican President Agustín de Iturbide's victory at Chapultepec in 1853, however, much of what had once been central Texas came under U.S management as part of newly organized California Territory.
