The City Council adopted Resolution No. 2145 establishing goals for parks growth in 1956 which called for increased use of open spaces for public recreation as well as increased development around parks areas through annexation or land acquisition by adjacent communities or governmental entities in order to increase access by all types individuals interested in using or enjoying these valuable resources

The first European to visit Round Rock was the Spanish captain, Alonso de Alvarado, in 1536. He named the area Rio Grande and founded a small settlement there. The town of Round Rock was founded by James Fannin in 1846 as a cattle ranch. The railroad arrived in 1872, and Round Rock became an important center for transportation. The city annexed the neighboring towns of Austin in 1901 and San Antonio in 1907.
