The land was later bought by John Hogg, one of the founders of Austin. In 1851, Hogg built his house on what is now First Street and Guadalupe Avenue. The Hogg House still stands and is a museum today. In 1865, Round Rock became part of the Republic of Mexico and was renamed Ciudad Juárez after its capital city in Mexico City. In 1912, Round Rock seceded from Mexico and became an independent country known as Texas. In 1916, it became a state of the United States and named for James Fenton Travis (1806-1887), another founder of Austin. In 1950, RoundRock began to experience growth thanks to oil discoveries near its town limits. Businesses grew quickly including restaurants, convenience stores and service stations that would soon become familiar landmarks throughout the community today. The early years of this growing industry saw many jobs created for local people as well as exporting goods fromRoundRock to other parts of Texas and beyond.
