The Round Rock Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1903 in Round Rock, Texas. The club's first rifle was a Winchester Model 1892. The first pistol was a Colt Peacemaker. In 1912, the club purchased its own rifle range and began to compete in state matches. In 1916, the club organized its first national match which it won. In 1923, the club became affiliated with the NRA and began to compete at national levels. In 1934, Round Rock hosted its second NRA convention and again won the event. From 1935-1939, RoundsRock hosted the annual National Civilian Marksmanship Competition (NCMCC).
Round Rock is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in the central area of the state and on the border with Mexico. The population was 258,713 at the 2010 census, making it the 15th largest city in Texas and its second-largest metropolitan area after Dallas. After World War II Round Rock experienced some growth again thanks to new businesses such as Bechtel Corporation’s electrical engineering plant (now known as UT Arlington). However, this prosperity stalled during the late 1990s recession when production jobs switched from manufacturing to service-sector jobs within various industries. This changed followingthe 2000 presidential election when then-President George W Bush visited Round rock for his campaign rally; afterwards many high-paying blue-collar jobs moved into neighboring Dallas or Houston while lower paying service sector jobs continued to shrink around downtown Round Rock. Although job losses have occurred since then they have been less severe than those seen before because companies have found ways to move their operations elsewhere without laying off workers. In Round Rock, Texas, the first recorded settler was a man by the name of John Comanche in 1827. The town was founded on May 12th, 1853 by James Bowie and his brother Arnulf Bowie. It had the name of "Round Rock" because it was a circular indentation in the earth that served as a watering hole for their cattle. On July 16th, 1858, Round Rock became an independent city when it ratified an act of Congress creating what is now Austin County. The population of Round Rock grew rapidly from its original 1,500 residents to over 10,000 by 1860. By 1865, RoundRock had become one of the most important cotton-growing areas inTexas. In 1870-71, RoundRock hosted the first Cotton States and Western Exhibition which showcased American cotton goods to European buyers. In 1865-1867 Confederate General Robert E Lee made repeated visits to Round Rock and its surrounding area during his attempt to rally Texans against Union forces. On October 21st 1865 while visitingRoundRock with his army camped at San Jacinto River northeast of Austin; General Lee ordered all civilians within radius of Richmond (includeingRoundRock)to be arrested and brought before him for trial on charges including treasonous conspiracy againstthe United States government
