Rosenberg, Texas is located in the Gulf of Mexico region and has a humid subtropical climate. The intensity of the sun's heat leads to a high demand for summer clothing and sunscreen. In addition, Rosenberg experiences significant amounts of rainfall throughout the year due to its location on a big bend in the Brazos River. In 1879, General James Fayette Houston purchased 640 acres near present-day Rosenberg from John Ransom and others. He named it "Houston Heights," but it was abandoned by 1882 because of problems with flooding that had become common there since the river bends so much. In 1899, an early developer named Augustus Woodward put up some buildings on land now occupied by Rice University in Rosenberg. That same year, he also started selling water pistols made by Hispano-Suiza firearms company founder Manuel Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna as "Rosenberg Water Pistol." The pistols were used for hunting game such as deer and turkey at remote areas near Rosenberg where water couldn't be found or pumped from natural sources. The first flashlights appeared in this area when Harry Houdini created his famoustrips through dark tunnels using portable lightbulbs during speakeasies back in 1906 while performing illusions at local bars called "The Happy Dog" and "The Dutchman." The community is named after John Rosenberg's father, who immigrated to America from Russia in 1854. Today, the population of Rosenberg remains small with only a few hundred residents. However, its history and culture are well worth taking a closer look at. John Rosenberg was a successful businessman and rancher who played an important role in early Texas history. He helped found both the Republic of Texas and Caldwell County (now part of Houston). In addition to his business endeavors, he also served as mayor of Rosenberg from 1901 to 1903 and as county judge from 1907 to 1911. After World War I ended, Rosenberg returned to ranching and politics. He gained national prominence when he helped lead the Republican National Committee during the 1920 election cycle. Rosenberg died in 1923 but his legacy lives on through his son John Jr., who still resides in town today and runs the business that their father started thirty-five years earlier: J & J Foods Incorporated (JFK). JFK is one of only a handful of businesses remaining from John Jr.'s father's days as an entrepreneur – along with his grocery store, gas station, car dealership – all devoted to providing quality local products at reasonable prices for customers throughout eastern Texas.

The first settler in Rosenberg was Isaac Rosenberg, who arrived in 1836. In 1881, the post office at Rosenberg was renamed Tomball after one of its founders, Tomball Cochran. The population of Rosenberg dwindled after World War II as many people left for better opportunities in other parts of Texas and America. However, the community has since revived and is home to a number of businesses and restaurants.
