Rosenberg, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1876 by John Rosenberg and named for his brother-in-law, David Rosenberg. The community was originally located on the eastern edge of Hudspeth County and until recently it lay within the present day city of Rosenberg. However, as Hudspeth County became more populous over the years and its boundaries expanded to include parts of adjacent counties, Rosenberg gradually moved closer to the larger community. Today it is one of only a few remaining rural communities in Hudspeth County. The first settler in Rosenberg was John Rosenberg himself who arrived there from Illinois in 1876. He married Sarah (née Topping) and built a cabin near what is now the Main Street intersection. The early settlers were largely subsistence farmers with some cattle and sheep operation but also began to build stores and other businesses such as a post office which opened in 1880. In 1886 David Rosenberg came to live in town along with his wife Sarah; they had two children there before moving back east later that year. By 1890 Rosenburg had erected a frame hotel which served as both local general store and social gathering spot for residents of neighboring communities like Springtown or Carthage while also providing services such as wagonning service between these villages for goods brought downriver by steamboats visiting Hermannstadt Dam on the Red River bottomland at that time. In 1893 when Houston annexed much of what is now Hudspeth County, Rosenburg voted against annexation because he wanted his community to remain unincorporated – something that would have meant losing all access to government assistance including education, health care, infrastructure development etc.,none of which he could easily afford given his modest resources at the time. In 1896 when Houston annexed most of what is now Austin county too – although still keeping some portions inside its bounds – Rosenberg Joined forces with other like-minded rural towns within Austin county to form the growing agricultural center known as "The Great Plains". This effort failed however due largely to financial limitations that had been put into place by those new landowners rather than anything inherent about their land or population Patterns particularly given that many rural Texans remained illiterate well into this century despite various opportunities available through educational/industrial programs designed specifically for them Through hard work and persistence though natural disaster (the 1906 tornado), economic hardship (the Great Depression) & even militia service during World War II+,David & Sarah Rosenburg raised enough money (& their 5 children) sufficient eventually enable them finallyto move back home after 55 years living away from their roots! Finally rejuvenated & able to call themselves " homeowners" once again!
