Rosenberg was founded in 1881 by Abram Rosenberg and his family. In 1959, it became the first town in Texas to have an all-electric streetlight system. Rosenberg is located on State Highway 9 about northwest of Austin and northeast of Round Rock. Rosenberg is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. It was founded by German immigrants in 1881. The town was named for Julius Rosenberg, an American journalist and diplomat who worked in Berlin during World War II. In 1951, Rosenberg became the first municipality in Texas to be admitted to the United States as a solidly Republican bastion. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,622. The community sprang up around what is now the high school and post office buildings; it began as a rural agricultural village but soon developed into a small town with a largely white population. Starting out as just five families living on one farmstead, Rosenberg quickly grew into a sizable community with over 100 residents by 1925. By that time, local farmers had started marketing their produce directly to consumers through local stores located near the post office and schoolhouse. In 1951, Rosenberg joined forces with nearby Val Verde to form the Vernon County Agricultural Cooperative which would remain operational until 1984 when it merged into the larger Vernon County Agricultural Society (later known as Texas A&M University’s AgCenter). This cooperative played an important role in developing agriculture throughout Vernon County until deregulation of agriculture put an end to most collective farming practices within several years’ time. As part of Texas A&M University'sAg Center (now known as AgLife), Rosenberg has also been home to numerous research projects focused on agro-ecological systems and soil health since its inception in 1978. During that decade or so of operations there have been three major changes at AgLife: first came rationalization across all functions associated with the administration of agronomy; second were advances in instrumentation and modeling which led to increased accuracy and productivity while still permitting flexibility; third were changes resulting from both external influences such as Hurricane Ike (2008) which disrupted production patterns and again called for increased accuracy within laboratory settings; these final two waves shaped much subsequent strategy within AgLife over ensuing decades culminating today with our current state-of-the art facility - Rosenwald lab - housed inside Beaumont Enterprise Place mall!
