The Rosenberg town center is known for its many clothing stores and the local gunsmiths who have been crafting firearms t-shirts since the early 1900s. Rosenberg, Texas is a small town inTyler County, Texas. The population was 893 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tyler-area Micropolitan Statistical Area. Rosenberg was founded by Jacob Rosenberg in 1881 as a farmstead on theranch of Cooke and Harvey. Jacob Rosenberg started the first post office in Rosenberg in 1887. He also built the first store and frame house in what is now Rosenberg. The community had its peak growth around 1914 when it had a population of 1,200 people. However, during World War I, Rosenberg came under bombardment from German artillery, which destroyed many homes and businesses. As a result of this damage, the population declined quickly after the war ended. In 1920, Rosenberg's last post office closed because postal service was discontinued due to budget cuts by then Governor George Wickersham Sr.). In 1951, A&P Texaco opened its first gasoline station in nearby Palestine which helped revive the local economy and spur development of new businesses including a restaurant and grocery store operated by Johnnie Dunnigan that became one of downtown Rosenberg's most famous landmarks; however arson sacked most of these ventures within months). After years of decline throughout much of recent history (except for an upswing since 2000), some redevelopment has been attempted: residential neighborhoods were created around US Highway 287/SR 453 east-northeastward from downtown; commercial areas have sprung up along RR 278/US Hwy 281 just north-northeast from downtown (mainly centered around Memorial Stadium); and agricultural land has been developed further to include increased acreage for farming purposes as well as larger parcel sizes for wind energy production potential—all while preserving significant historical aspects essential to local identity such as retail stores located near churches on Main Street (the "Streeterville" district) that are still open today despite numerous renovations over time). Unfortunately these successes have not always translated into lasting economic stability or sustainability; indeed almost all major redevelopment projects have eventually come to an end either due to competition from more modern developments or simply wearand tear over time caused by growth without corresponding investment; nonetheless there remains something special about watching tree leaves fall off branches during autumn outside old storefronts along Main Street today when compared to how things were back when those stores were operational!
