Roma, Texas is located in the Llano County seat of Roma. The town was founded by Germans in 1876. As Roma grew, a post office was established in 1880 and a school was built in 1885. In 1898, the Roma Telephone Company was organized and began serving the community. A new school building was erected in 1951, and the following year a shopping center opened. The population of Roma peaked at 1,500 in 1960 but has since declined significantly. In 2007, the Roma Fire Department purchased an old gasoline station on Old Spanish Trail to serve as their fire department headquarters. Roma also has its own ambulance service which provides coverage for all of Llano County.
