Roma, Texas is a small town located in Williamson County, Texas. It was founded in 1881 by John C. Roma and his wife, Maria. The original building that now stands in Roma was built on the site of an earlier homestead. In 1905, Roma's first post office was established here. The Romas were German immigrants who had come to the United States as refugees during World War I. They started a grocery store near the present day intersection of US 90 and FM 528 in Roma in 1922. The store traded until it closed in 1978 when the Romas sold their business to JB Hildebrandt Jr., who operated it until 1984. In 1992, Roma voted to become a city and it has since grown into one of the most diverse cities in Williamson County with a population of over 50,000 people. One of the primary benefits of being part of Roma has been its access to education which has helped increase its economy and city status throughout its history

They named their village after Pope Saint Leo IX's hometown of Viterbo in Italy. After Mexico achieved independence from Spain in 1828, Villaverde y Saldaña became part of Mexico City. On October 16, 1845 President Agustín de Montt granted Mexican citizenship to all miscegenated individuals living within his territory as part of his "Ley Común" policy which aimed at integrating all races into one nation. This policy was challenged by nativist groups such as La Bandera Negra who wanted Hispanics only absorbed into their own race while other races were kept separate through discriminatory policies such as social segregation or racial discrimination against whites at businesses and public services overseen by appointed agents known as "guardias municipales". In 1861 American soldiers invading Texas destroyed Spanish fortifications at Matamoros without firing a shot; this event ledto increased animosity between Mexicans living inside Mexican soil and those living outside it because many felt they had been betrayed by their government when it ceded control over California to America just prior to war with Spain On July 4th 1860 Manuel García Caballero purchased 2/3 interest in Rancho Rinconada for $4000 from José Joaquín Balderas alias Jesus Jiménez Rivera for $6000 From these two transactions we can date both events that formed rancho Rinconada: Santana Land Grant dated 8/1/1860 & Anglo Sycamore Land Grant dated 10/8/1860 which later became 3 parcels called Rinconada A., Rinconada B., & Gómez Rancho acquired on 11/12/1870 thru purchase from Fernando Alvarez From this moment forward there would be no end until title deeds were finally transferred back onto original grantees names circa 1911-1920 due mainly because our family didn’t want anyone else controlling our land so long as we lived here & loved our home😎👍🏼‍♂️

The name Romulus comes from an ancient Roman city that lay at the foot of Mount Olympus and which housed a grandstand used for horse racing events. This event took place near where Roma now stands. In 1978, Roma became a census-designated place because it had achieved “official” status as part of thentxs metropolitan area . At that time, all metropolitan areas were composed of municipalities with a population over 1 million that did not have independent municipal governments; instead they were under the jurisdiction of their respective county governments. Because Rome had reached this size and importance within Metro Houston through its own efforts rather than being taken advantage of by other counties within our metropolis (e.g., Harris County), ROMA enjoyed special privileges and protections unavailable to other jurisdictions within our metropolitan area (nor do we currently enjoy such privileges).

Roma was a small community in the northwestern corner of Texas. It is now part of Midland and has a population of about 10,000 people. The Roma community had its beginnings in the early 1800s, when Romani immigrants from Hungary began to settle in what is now Roma County. In 1892, the Texas Legislature designated Roma County as an Indian reserve for the Romani people.
