When the city of Roma, Texas was founded in 1907, there were few firearms available to the community. In 1919, one of Roma's most famous residents, James Wacoomba decided to start a handgun shop in town after seeing how prevalent handguns were in Mexico City. Wacoomba quickly became known for his expertgunsmithing skills and began manufacturing pistols for Roma residents. In 1936, local rancher John "Longhorn" Boyd donated three shotguns and two rifles to Roma as thanks for its help during World War II. The rifles were then passed down through the Boyd family until they were given away to George Hearn at the end of 2006. Hearn is considered to be Rome's unofficial municipal honorary firearm historian because he has been repository for all firearms that have been donated or loaned to the city since 1907 (including those from Wacoomba).
