Rockwall is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The community began as a farmstead on the east side of the Trinity River about one mile (1.6 km) north of present-day Rockwall and two miles (3 km) south of what is now downtown Rockwall. A post office was established in 1872, and by 1880, there were 10 residents. The first school in what is now Rockwall was built in 1879; it was attended by children from surrounding farms. In 1886, a sawmill and gristmill were built in what is now downtown Rockwall; they together produced more than $100,000 per year until they closed in 1907. In 1916, J. Batson Coleman donated land to build a public school; it opened as North High School on October 15, 1917. In 1922–23, local citizens raised money to construct the first rock wall around town to protect it from flood damage caused by Hurricane Agnes (); this structure became known as "The Wall". In 1935–36, Arlene Dickinson donated land for a new high school; it opened as South High School on December 1, 1936. On November 20 of that year, president Franklin D Roosevelt delivered his famous speech "My Boyhood Home" at South High School auditorium2 – which helped spark nationwide concern about education reform then being contemplated via radio broadcasts from Washington D.C.– during which he announced support for creating national schools funds specifically to be used for educational projects within states with inadequate resources (eager parents soon responded with donations). Rockwall's economy changed dramatically when oil discoveries were made near its location in Hudspeth County early in the 21st century; production increased rapidly and led to an increase in jobs throughout much of Hudspeth County including those at Kerr Western Refinery4 where rock wall construction initially commenced – making it one of several towns directly impacted by this boomtown spurt5 (the others being Midland and Odessa). AsrockWall refinery closed operations after decades due primarily to environmental concerns associated with benzene emissions6 but anti-pollution protests continued until early 2019 when all UOP facilities have been shuttered following yearslong decarbonization effort7 – leaving only expensive mothballed equipment still standing atop rusted foundations8 across large sections of East Austin’s central business district9 – continuing an era of intense regional rivalries and competition that has characterized many southwest Texas communities since World War II10

In World War II, Rockwall played an important role as a manufacturing center for Victory aircraft production. After the war, rock wall lost its importance as an agricultural town but it has regained some importance as a bedroom community for Houston.
