Rockwall, Texas is home to the oldest continuously operated firearms range in the Lone Star State. The ranges were started by a group of men who wanted to protect their community from bandits and other criminals. Today, the Rockwall Firearms Museum offers visitors an interactive exhibit on the history of firearms in this town. The first firearm range was opened in 1875 by John C. Westfall and his partners Gunsmithsvilc and Riflemen’s Lodge #1. The range was located on FM 620 just east of town. It was used for target shooting and hunting with shotguns only. In 1907, Gunsmithsvilc merged with Riflemen’s Lodge #2 to form the Rockwall Riflemen’s Club, which still uses FM 620 as its Range Floor today! In 1924, Ben Hollis opened his own gun store in Rockwall and began selling rifles and shotguns direct to consumers! Hollis served as president of the NRA from 1937-1945! He is also recognized for being one of the earliest shooters in Texas! His store remains open today as a museum dedicated to Ben Hollis and his guns! Today, there are over 15 firearms ranges located throughout Rockwall! Some of these ranges still offertarget shooting or hunting experiences for customers; however, all have been converted into educational institutions that allow visitors access to various exhibits on gun history and innovation.

Rockwall is a city in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 87 at the 2010 census. The rock wall of the City of Rockwall is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Texas and is also known as one of the best preserved Missions in Texas. The city's name comes from "rocky" heaths that surround it on three sides. The site where Rockwall now stands was first settled by Anglo-American settlers in 1836. A smallpox epidemic in 1837 killed many people, including many members of the original Rockwall community, and so they named their new settlement "Rocky Hill". In 1839, a grant was given to David Mosely to build a Methodist church and graveyard there. By 1840, other settlers had moved into what would become Rockwall; these were mostly Southern Baptists who called themselves "The People". In 1861, during Mexican–American War (1846-48), General Sam Houston ordered all male citizens over 21 years old to leave San Antonio for Fort Worth due to an outbreak of cholera. Most men stayed behind and several families took up residence in what became known as Springdale or Rockyville because of the high number of rocks around Springdale Lake which gassed cattle when they drank from it during summer months. According to some sources, about 100 men formed a self-help militia called The Rough Riders under Captain John Sowell to fight against American troops garrisoning Fort Worth at that time. Others claim that only 10 or 15 men actually joined forces with Houston's army under Captains George McCulloch and James Biddle; although others still mention 200+. When Mexico announced its intention to recognize California as independent states on January 2nd, 1850 after US President James K Polk refused secession requests from Alabama through Governor Alonzo Harrisbeck – then Ulysses S Grant – MexicanGeneral Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna began marching his army eastward along San Antonio River towards Austin while rumors circulated among Texans that Mexico would unconditionally recognize California if this happened because Mexico didn't want any more land coming intoTexas than she already had! On January 7th (the day before Mexican Independence Day), General Lopez de Santa Anna reached Austin and began disembarking his troops at Milam Street Bridge leading southward toward today’s Jack London Square without fighting! As Lt.-Gen Pedro Menéndez García reported: “We found no resistance whatever from any quarter save that offered by individual militia companies which we easily overpowered”! He further added: “As soon as we landed our artillery fire opened such proportions [that] within minutes we had destroyed every house on both banks … Many women & children fled for refuge into houses which lay upon ruins”! journalist Will Rogers rode up on horseback just after Santa Anna's landing asking about destruction he saw but wasn't told about yet exclaiming "What fun it must have been for those Russian admirals who used to live hereabouts - going around demolishing everything!" Rockwall is located in Hidalgo County, Texas. It was founded by the Comanche and Kiowa Indians in 1824. The city was named for General John B. Rockwall, who served as a general in the Mexican-American War and as an administrator of Indian Affairs in Texas. In 1881, Rockwall became the capital of Hidalgo County after being moved from San Antonio. The county seat until 1901 was El Paso.
