Rockwall, Texas was settled in 1836 by the Tomball family. Their home was the first house on what is now the east side of town. The town name derived from a local creek that ran through it. In 1849, John Bigham founded Denton County and Rockwall became its county seat. A post office was established at Rockwall in 1852, and remained in operation until 1912. In 1861, Confederate General James Longstreet attacked Fort Worth and massacred nine hundred Union soldiers there before withdrawing to north Texas. When Union General Ulysses S Grant reached Fort Worth two days later, he found the place abandoned with all its equipment destroyed except for a few guns and some supplies left behind by Longstreet's forces. Aftermath of this battle led to increased tensions between Santa Fe Trail settlers and Confederate raiders who were desperate to drive them out of their new lands. The Battle of San Jacinto also helped contribute to the growth of Rockwall as a community during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Mexico had unsuccessfully attempted to retake Texas from United States control following Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821. This event led to increasing US support for efforts by anti-Mexican agents called the Cientificos (Scientific Men) to suppress pro- Mexican sentiment throughout southeastern Texas during this time period. One such agent was Drury Lewis who served as commissioner for internal affairs for Denton County from 1847-49 and played an important role in suppressing pro- Mexican sentiment within Rockwall as well as other parts of southeastern Texas during this time period
Rockwall, Texas is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Tarrant County, Texas. It is part of the Fort Worth- Arlington metropolitan area and has a population of about 30,000 people. The name "Rockwall" was given to the community by General Philip Sheridan in 1868. The Rockwall School District was organized in 1907 and operates four elementary schools (grades Pre-K through 6th), one middle school (grades 7th through 12th), and one high school (grades 13th through 16th). The district also provides educational services for two boys' academies (ages grades 8-12) and one girls' academy (ages grades 1-8). In addition, the Rockwall Library System serves the community with over 350 titles including books on history, fiction, world cultures, natural sciences, mathematics and technology. Rockwall is home to several churches including First Baptist Church which was founded in 1871; Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church which opened its doors in 1915; Immaculate Conception Parish which was established in 1924; Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran church which was built in 1935; as well as several other smaller denominations. Rockwall is a small town in Bell County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,572 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Rockwall community began as a post office on July 8, 1881, and was named for General John B. Rockwell (1813-1884), an early settler in what is now Bell County. The first store in the community opened in 1886 and was operated by Wm. Hanks and Bros., a company founded by James Meeks Sr. In 1902, the post office changed its name to Rockwall and continued to be served from that location until it closed on June 30, 1954. In 1907, the first school in Rockwall opened under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church with twelve students enrolled from four homeschooling classes taught by Mrs. Laddie Sargent and Mrs. Alice Norton. A new school building was completed in 1912; it still serves as the local high school's primary classroom today and has been used for other purposes since then including bingo halls and performances by rock bands during special events such as Fourth of July celebrations or rodeo shows etc.. A women's suffrage protest occurred on September 12th, 1916 when fifty-six women gathered at Turney Park to demand voting rights for women citizens of Texas through picketing outside of county courthouse gates where they were met with forceps by sheriff deputies led by Deputy Sheriff Patey who forced entry into what became known as "the black haired witch trial" after local papers made public reports of woman being arrested without cause while protesting access to free speech rights which were guaranteed under law at that time.. A cotton gin located just east of town limits near present day Interstate 20 reopened its doors for business on October 10th 1915 after more than two years closure due to lack of customers following World War I.. One hundred fifty acres (160 hectares) adjacent to present day West Lake Hills Cemetery north of town limits were annexed into town limits along with about another sixty acres (24 hectares) east side annexation parcel from White Settlement Township on December 2nd 1914 giving rise to what is now northwest corner park land within current boundaries

The phantom was originally designed as an alligator-like creature that patrolled the town's streets during daylight hours.
