Rockwall is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the eastern edge of the state. As of the 2010 census, the population was 685. The community was named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee's birthplace and home, Stone Wallock Court House in nearby Arlington County. The first settler in what is now Rockwall was John Fenton who built a cabin on an old cattle drive in 1868. A post office called Rockwall was established in 1875, and remained open until it closed in 1907. The first store opened at 5 Neches Road in 1893. In 1899, the first school opened and remains operational to this day as Wellesley Elementary School. In 1907, a group of investors led by J C Hutton bought land east of town from the heirs of pioneer Ebenezer Sprinkle and began to build a railroad station thereon. The original depot building still stands today on US Highway 287 just north of US Highway 277 (the present-day scene of popular hangouts like "Rancho" or "Prairie"), across from Wellesley Elementary School. When railroads were extended into Texas during World War I, much of this area became rural hands-off territory used for munitions production by local companies such as Alcoa and artillery manufacturers like Peabody Arsenal Ltd., with little or no development taking place beyond these boundaries for many years thereafter despite ample opportunity arising both through natural resources (shiny new towns weresprinkled throughout this radius) and federal stimulus funds available to assist fledgling communities such as Rockwall through programs such as Section 8 housing allowances schemes administered by HUD back then known affectionately as "FEMA". However; when oil discoveries began emerging along Arkansas State Route 281 near present-day Irvington early during the 2000s rockwall saw unprecedented levels of development resulting largely from its location sandwiched between two industrially active areas adjacent to each other--a circumstance that has since changed somewhat with recent reclamation efforts.) Today Rockwall feels like something out of an Amish farming community circa 1910 where people are still friendly but limited knowledge about modern life due to lack thereof Anglo influence having taken hold here generations ago while their ancestors continue maintaning more traditional values & lifestyle

Rockwall is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles south of Dallas. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area. The community began as a cattle ranch and farming region in 1879, when Mexicans started to arrive in what is now Rockwall from Mexico City. A post office was established there on October 15, 1880, and the name was changed to Rockwall on November 21 that year. By 1903 the town had a population of 256 people. In 1907 the Cedar Creek Dam (now known as Lake Bowie) was built by the Midwestern Electric Company and it provided power for Rockwall until 1938. In 1915, an oil well went sour and produced no oil until 1922; this led to increased production at Cedar Creek Dam which ended in 1938 when operations were transferred to Cessna Field near Wichita Falls). Rockwall experienced some growth during World War II with soldiers coming home wounded or killed overseas and local businesses providing goods and services to military personnel stationed here including Ford Motorsports Park (the first open-air race track in North America), Lockheed Aircraft Plant No. 2 (later McDonnell Douglas), Consolidated Aircraft Corp., Standard Oil de Mexicali Refinery No. 3 (later Tesoro Petroleum) and Texas Instruments Laboratory No. 4 (later Philips Electronics). A post office called Post Office Heights opened in 1951 but closed within 6 months due to low letters frequency among residents so it was renamed Rockwall again in 1957 after former US congressman Floyd Bentsen who represented the district then included parts of present day Rockwall County along with Arlington County east of I-35W which bordered Austin before becoming its own separate cityhood on December 15, 1966 following passage of Republic Act 1025 which merged all three jurisdictions into one new entity called Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Area effective January 1, 1971). In 1978 construction began on Interstate 35W between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Arlington Heights resulting in much criticism as it resulted in less living space for residents adjacent to highway development while also increasing traffic congestion around both airports making it difficult for many people including those who live near I-35Wand I–35E to commute into downtown Fort Worth or vice versa; however this project eventually became successful as it has reduced traffic congestion around both airports while creating new multi-million dollar business districts around them such as Music Hall District ( centered around Live Nation Entertainment Complex) and Economic Development District ( anchored by Toyota Center). In 1995 rock wall's annexation by Arlington Heights made much more sense when all three jurisdictions decided they wanted their own city government rather than have one governing everything because they felt that having one governing body would be too centralized whereas each jurisdiction felt that being governed separately would allow them more independence whereas under one government control they felt would be too powerful trying to use their power for personal gain instead of serving the community best interest thereby undermining their position within society overall thus leading to conflict over governance between jurisdictions although this problem has been largely overcome through negotiations over time culminating with ratification of Republic Act 1025 by all three communities forming One City Government effective January 1, 2001).
