It was founded by Methodists in 1881 and has been identified as a center of American knife manufacturing for more than 100 years. The first factory in Rockwall was built in 1881 by John Hockaday, who started making pocket knives out of Spanish oak imported from Spain at his own store on Elm Street near downtown Rockwall. Rockwall, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,057 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlement in what is now Rockwall was made in 1869 by citizens of Shreveport, Louisiana on land that had been given to them by General Sam Houston. They named their new community for John Randolph Rockwell of Virginia. In 1881, the Post Office moved from Shreveport to Rockwall and changed its name to Rockwall until 1930 when it reverted back to its original name. The first store in what is now Rockwall was opened in 1886 by Hetty Waddell and her husband Pembroke Culp. After a few years they sold their business and moved away. A post office called Rocksville was established at this location in 1889, but it never served anyone and closed same year. In 1909, Dr Josephine Kittleman set up a medical practice at this site which continued until her death in 1953 (aged 94). She is buried there with her husband and children Lewis Fenton Kittleman (1915-2005), Edwin Aiken Kittleman (1920-1982) and Mary Alice Kittleman (1925-2001). A number of businesses were located here before World War II: Three grocery stores operated from 1914 through 1919; two dry goods stores operated from 1918 through 1922; four auto parts stores were open from 1923 until 1945; two feed dealers were open from 1924 until 1926; one clothing store operated from 1927 until 1931; one bakery operated from 1928 through 1933; one hardware store operated between 1934 and 1936; three wireless service providers operated 1938 through 1941: FirstCom Radio Service Inc., US Cellular Corporation & Western Wireless Service Company.; One restaurant served customers during World War II: The Ballad Cafe which reopened after the war as the Best Western Hotel Rockwall.. After the war most of these businesses closed or merged into other companies.: Two cotton mills produced cloth for local use: The Cotton Mills Mills & Manufacturing Co., Ltd., started production in 1925 and ceased operations 1974 while Youngstown Mohawk Fibers Corp.,started production 1954 And finally Donnybrook Petroleum Corp started exploration activities 1951 These companies became known as "the old timers" because they still exist today although some have closed down completely such as Youngstown Mohawk Fibers Corp who produce synthetic fuels etc...Today only Donnybrook Petroleum corp produces oil products including fracking fluid

Rockwall is a city in County of San Antonio, Texas, United States. The population was 27,359 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of San Antonio and is also the largest city in Bexar County by land area. The first permanent settler in what is now Rockwall was Nicholas Flores on January 14th, 1836. The present-day city was founded on December 1st, 1907 by Major General John Hunt Morgan. The original name for Rockwall was "Humble". When it became part of Bexar County it received its current name from Major General John Hunt Morgan who named it after his hometown of Humble in Alabama. The site where Rockwall now stands had been inhabited since pre-historic times by the Nacogdoches tribe of Native Americans and their nearby kin groups such as the Killeen and Navarro peoples. In 1836 Mexican soldiers sacked the village killing all but four inhabitants including Nicholas Flores who took refuge with local landowners until they could be recovered and brought to justice. At this time Humble consisted of only a few huts around a small creek which served as their main watering source due to lack of elsewhere to put up tents or build homes. In 1907 Rockwall was designated as the county seat for San Antonio after being chosen over Austin because it offered more water resources available for irrigation outside City Limits within Bexar County than Austin did - an offer that would continue to be made until annexation into Travis County in 1920 when Austin moved its seat to Roundabout Hills Cemetery east of downtown proper following complaints from citizens about traffic congestion caused by Austin's growing population and commercial interests within City Limits . The original Main Street Bridge across Trinity River predates even TX Route 281 which currently runs concurrent through town center just north of I-35W/ US 287 (the old US 290). It opened on October 8th, 1922 as part of a major construction project authorized by then Governor Estrada to improve transportation links between San Antonio and surrounding counties including linking Kerrville with Lubbock via FM 926 (now I-10) southbound and Brownsville with Edinburg via FM 1337 (now SH 146) eastbound . Rockwall was founded by the Brazos River in 1836. The town took its name from nearby Rocky Hill, which served as a base of operations for the Spanish mission system in Texas. By 1845, Rockwall had become the county seat of Rio Grande County. In 1869, Rockwall was annexed to Austin and became a city. On January 1, 1907, Austin merged with Dallas to form a new metropolitan area that included Rockwall and other neighboring towns.
