Rockwall, Texas is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,351 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1876 by Scots-Irish settlers who named it for General James Boggs, then commander of the Union Army at the Battle of Shiloh. The first residents were farmers and their families who arrived from Ireland in 1876. They built small log cabins and farms around an open-air square which they called "The Square." By 1890, some 20 businesses had been established in what is now Rockwall. A post office was organized in 1892 and operated until 1907. In 1903, land near downtown was donated to form what is now City Park; this lot included a schoolhouse used by East Travis School District #1 from 1902 to 1906 and later by Lamar Consolidated Independent School District #2 from 1907 to 1945. In 1909 the town plat was amended to add two blocks east of First Street (now Lakeway Boulevard) for what are now City Hall and City Marketplace buildings. In 1926 JBS Wagon Works became the first company outside of Ireland to be chartered as a limited liability company in Texas; it continued operating as such until 1959 when it merged with other wagon works companies into ABBCO Incorporated NRK Co., also located in Austin but larger than Rockwall because its products went beyond just railway transportation through its subsidiaries including Nacogdoches Trucking Company and Kerrville Air Lines Incorporated). In 1935 Rockwall annexed portions of Humble (later Spring Branch) County which separated from Hudspeth County along Long Road north of I-35W/Upper Loop 610E (the old SH 171 freeway). The annexation completed much needed internal consolidation within Hudspeth County following years furnishings industry decline that led to increased vehicular traffic on FM 644 between Houston & Tyler during prohibition era making Rocks wall one point along this route served more often than not by state troopers on horseback wearing blindfolded "patrol cars". statewide sales countrywide peaked at $2 million per year during early 1930's However heavy truck traffic requirements resulting from World War II caused FM 644 sections between Houston & Tyler Junction becoming single highway status effective September 1st 1945 concluding over 60 years without any realignment or improvement same routing today

The first reference to a "rock wall" in this area is from 1836 when General Antonio López de Santa Anna referred to it as "una muralla de roca". It wasn't until 1912 when Rockwall residents built their own wall around town that they began using the term "rock wall" for what we now know it - a symbol of protection against Indians and bandits who frequented the area at that time. In 1951, Rockwall's only school mascot was an Indian Chief named Chief Lone Eagle. In 1962, Congress passed legislation designating certain areas in central Texas as national monuments including parts of Rockwall County which had been home to numerous Native American cultures dating back centuries. The designation helped preserve many aspects of these cultures including traditional music and dance, artifacts, and land titles. This led to more people coming into contact with these cultures and eventually creating more tourism opportunities in the area which in turn generated new economic development. Today, there are several tourist attractions located within or near Rockwall including two museums - The Museum of Fine Arts Rocksville (MFA) and Cliff Cave Museum - as well as several restaurants and shops catering to visitors from all over the world who come to see this unique community at its best!
