Rockwall is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Rockwall is located on the east edge of Hudspeth County and is bordered by Caldwell to the north and east, Pecos to the south, and Alpine to the west. The first white person to live in what is now Rockwall probably arrived in 1836 when Captain John Fenton's party set out from Fort Worth for a exploration trip along the Red River. They travelled through what is now Hudspeth County and camped near present-day Rocksville on July 6th of that year. In 1837 John Wesley Powell passed through Hudspeth County on his way to explore nearby Canyonlands National Park. One account claims that he observed an artificial formation which he called "the Wall". It has been suggested that this may have been a natural sandstone hillock which had been artificially constructed by man as part of a ranch or irrigation project. In any case, it became known as "The Wall" due to its resemblance to The Tower of London! In 1838 some people living near Rocksville started raising cattle and selling their milk into surrounding counties. This led to increased growth in the area around Rocksville until within two years there were more than 100 homes in Rockwall! In 1840 James Ewing organized a group of farmers who began growing corn and wheat on land they had acquired from pioneers who had pioneer families surnamed Wolkowsky. When production grew too large for these early farmers, they turned to irrigation water power for help with their crop production – this eventually led to construction of dams across Shackelford Creek so that rock walls could be built across the creek bed for protection from floods during bad seasons! One result of these efforts was an increase in taxable value from $1,500 (1841) up to $10,000 (1851). In 1851 Isaac Rouse founded Rouse & Co., one of Texas' first cottonseed companies; his success led him later TO reorganize himself as Rouse Seed Company Limited which still exists today with over 120 employees worldwide! This period also saw rapid growth in agricultural products such as bacon, chickens eggs and creamery produce – all thanks largely to new transportation methods like railroads!
