Rockwall was founded on December 15, 1836 by Mexican Americans from San Antonio as Refugio de la Nación (Refugee Ranch), and it became a town on February 14, 1848.
Rockwall is a small town located in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rockwall was founded in 1851 as a post office and stagecoach stop on the Santa Fe Trail. The first store in Rockwall was opened by John Henton in 1876. In 1879, A&P Grocery became the first store in what is now Rockwall when it opened on Main Street. In 1915, JW Carpentry replaced A&P Grocery as the first local business in what is now Rockwall. The present day community of Rockwall began to form around 1916 when Willis and Lillie Bechtel erected a farmstand along FM 2222 east of town for sale to settlers from New Braunfels and other nearby towns. By 1918, there were six businesses in town: two stores, two grocery stores, one carpentry shop and one bakery/cooking school. At that time there were also five families living in town: the Bechteles (Willis & Lillie), Hardees (Jimmie & Nellie), Pritchettes (John Pritchett), Smiths (Samuel Smith) and Weems (Salta Weaver). In 1950, construction began on Red River High School which would serve as the community's initial high school until it was replaced by Highland Park High School in 1978. In 1956, rock wall Elementary School opened its doors with grades K-6th grade students from across Midland County attending together until 1966 when new classrooms were built for classes 7-12th grade students only at Red River High School which continues to serve today as our 12th grade offering { unofficially}. During 1969-1970 an addition was made to Red River Middle School which served grades 7-8th grade students through 10th grade while also adding an enlarged play area for younger children called "The Farm" which still exists today within this building! This addition cost $2,500 dollars and added over three football fields to Red River Middle School! That same year also saw the opening of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church givingrock wall residents their very first religious services! In 1975 another large addition was made to our school system when First Baptist Church of Rocks Wall merged into our church system becoming known as First Baptist Church - Rocks Wall! During this time we did away with our traditional second hand clothes store next door known simply as "The Garter Shop" { later changed back } because we felt that having more than one type of clothingStore within a limited distance allowed us to offer better prices combined with better service however The Garter Shop will still be remembered fondly long after ! From these various additions we slowly but surely grew into what we are today; a thriving community full of husbandry{ wife}, worshiping God{ family} + friends= Life!!

Rockwall is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas, bordered by San Antonio to the north, El Paso to the east, and Hudspeth County to the south. The population was 17,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area and is one of Texas' fastest-growing cities. The first people known to inhabit what are now Rockwall and its environs were Native Americans who hunted deer on local hills and sites near Red River in present-day Hidalgo County. Spanish colonists arrived in 1685 during Father Francisco de Miranda's expedition through what is now Midland County, as they explored this new land grants from Spain. In 1836 Mexico acquired most of Texas from United States sovereignty following their victory at Buena Vista War; Mexican officials claimed that all of Texas lay within their jurisdiction because it was part of Bexar County, which Mexican president Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna had put under American control after his triumph over Texan forces at San Jacinto Heights (December 6, 1835). A charter for Rockwall was issued on December 15, 1836 by then- Mayor Manuel Llano y Arroyo with James Bowie as incorporator The first school in what are now Rockwall was built on current day Elm Street in 1837; it became known as "Alamo School." A second school followed two years later on Carbine Road northwest of town. That school closed due to lack of students when Sam Houston attacked Mission Santa Cruz de las Flores (January 8th 1861) during the Alamo Rebellion(). In 1865 an act called Act 10 created Hudspeth County out of portions of Travis and Bastrop counties including much present day Rockwall; that year also saw construction begin on The Alamo Risk Way which runs through downtown today. This event marks perhaps rock wall's earliest claim to fame when a road running through its center became a popular tourist attraction for visitors seeking entrance into Fort Worth forCrossroads Expo & carnivals held there each year between 1951-1959.; however some historians question if this road actually began life as any other highway or if it was simply added later as part of Anschutz Rd development project initiated by high ranking municipal officials including Jock Mahoney In 1964TxDOT announced that they would be constructing Ilrraville Dam across Buffalo Creek just west/northwest of town; this project caused great concern among locals who felt that dam would impact their community negatively thereby threatening future growth prospects for Rockwall
ROCKWALL, TX was founded in 1911 by William F. Rockwall and his brother-in-law, John N. Hodge. In 1915 the brothers built a small farmstead on what is now FM 3596 east of town. The farm was successful and they decided to open a store there. They named their store Rockwall Hardware and began selling hardware, groceries, milk, eggs, clothes and other items to local farmers as well as people living in the surrounding area. In 1930 the brothers sold their business to A.S. Scruggs who operated it until it was purchased by Jerald M. Smith in 1976. In 1982 Smith added a gas station to the property which became known as Rockwall General Store & Grill which remains an important part of the community today.
