In 1961, during Lyndon B Johnson's presidency, he moved the United States Embassy from Washington D.C. to Mexico City and decided that Robstown would become America's new embassy town because it had been one of the few American towns not destroyed by World War II bombings like other post-war communities such as Brownsville or McAllen-. Consequently, at that time Ciudad Obregón reverted back to its original name: Robstown

The now defunct Texas Western Railroad passed through Robstown, running along what is now U.S. Highway 183, before being abandoned in 1978. A few years later, local residents started building a park around what is now Main Street and Railroad Avenue to commemorate the history of the railroad and the townspeople that lived along it. The Park opened to the public on July 15th, 1984 and has been described as "the most significant civic development ever accomplished by hard-working citizens of Robstown." In recent years efforts have been made to bring back some of the lost history of this small town which include restoring some of its buildings as well as hosting various events related to its past including lectures and workshops about local history held throughout the year at various locations within town.
