Robstown is a small town in the US state of Texas. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is located in Navarro County. The town was founded in 1872 by John Witherspoon Roberson and named for his father, Robert H. Roberson. In 1903, it became a city and was incorporated as such in 1935. The city limits were expanded to include parts of neighboring towns of Midland and Weatherford in 1959. In 1985, the city approved Measure T which authorized the annexation of portions of Midland by Robstown in order to create a municipality with a total population of over 10,000 people. The annexation process failed when the Midland City Council rejected the measure 3-2 on November 2nd, 1985 due to lack of support from residents within Robstown itself as well as from other adjacent municipalities that had also annexed into Robstown since its inception as an unincorporated community numbering only around 500 residents at its peak (but now totaling over 15K). On July 9th, 2006, Mayor Darryl Bowman announced that he would not seek re-election due to health reasons and would instead retire at the end of his term on October 31st 2006; effective date being November 6th 2006. On December 5th2006 mayor Bowman's wife Brenda passed away after many years battling ovarian cancer; she had been married to mayor Bowman since they both graduated from high school together in 1975

A post office called Robstown was established in 1851, and a courthouse was built in 1865. In 1907, the town incorporated and became a city under an act of the Texas Legislature. The name "Robstadt" originated from German settlers who named their farmsteads after towns they had visited in Germany. A railroad station was constructed at Robstown in 1912, and passenger service began between Dallas and Houston that year. The Lone Star Railroads purchased the railway from the Texans Central Railroad in 1928 and operated it until 1949 when it merged into Texaco Railway Company In 1969, Interstate 35 passed through Robstown as part of its route to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. As a result of this freeway construction, many small businesses closed up shop and some people abandoned their homes because they could no longer afford to live on streets that were increasingly congested with traffic. However, over time more residents have returned to their homes and businesses as traffic has calmed down; today's downtown area retains much of its original character despite being less than one-half mile wide at its widest point due to vehicular lanes running straight through it
