In 1898, one of the founders of Robstown, John Witherspoon, died while traveling eastward on his horseback. Witherspoon's widow re-founded the town with her husband's $10 donation. Over time, other family members contributed additional money to keep the community going financially. By 1903, Robstown had become self-sufficient and started selling goods direct to consumers via wagon rides down Main Street. By 1920, however, overpopulation and lack of land had caused many businesses to close or move away from Robstown; however, some continued to operate until they eventually went out of business in the late 1940s and early 1950s due to changing tastes in American culture during this time period.
