IHC built several large ranches in Tarrant County including Buena Vista Ranch near today's Old Post Office Road and Carrolton Ranch southeast of downtown Robstown- later known as Enterprise Ranch (). In 1907, local businessman Wernher von Braun purchased land east of downtown from IHC for $6 million which he used to build Arlington Air Force Base () on present day Ballpark Drive (). Von Braun served as its first director-general from 1957 until his death in 1983. Today Arlington AFB houses Army Ground Forces Headquarters (), Navy Surface Warfare Head Quarters (), Marine Corps Air Station Miramar () and Air Force Space Command (). Robstown started to industrialize following World War II when many companies moved into the town due to its proximity to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport (). Many industries that once dominated the town have since left such as agriculture (most notably Buena Vista), manufacturing (International Harvester), transportation (Dallas/Fort Worth Airport), services (Hooters) and retail (Jenny's Restaurant). However, some businesses that remain include: A&W Pizza (), KFC (), First American Bank () and Wells Fargo Bank (). The economy has been slowing down recently due to declines in oil prices but there are still some job opportunities available with organizations such as Sam's Club () and Mastercard().
Robstown was founded in 1836 by David Roberson, a cattleman and landowner. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s, thanks to its location on the Llano River between Austin and San Antonio. In 1859, Robstown joined the Mexican Republic as part of that country's efforts to resist American annexation. After Mexico's defeat in 1861, Robstown reverted back to United States control. In 1865, following Reconstruction years, Robstown became a thriving cotton town with plantations and small businesses. By the early 21st century, however, Robstown had essentially disappeared from the local landscape save for a few relicts of its past including a small museum and one restaurant.
