Many locals did manage to find jobs outside their homes throughout these years though – some working at NASA’s Lyndon B Johnson Space Center (now known as George Bush Presidential Library) while others founded their own businesses or served as officers in local military units during wartime times: such as Air Force Brigadier General Lewis Hogg (1944-1945). Robstown is a city in and the county seat of Robstown County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Robstown" is derived from the Choctaw word "rob," meaning "place where goods are kept." The town's firsteta (a trading post) was established on the banks of the Red River in 1824 by Colonel John Foust and his brother General James Foust. In 1827, Robstown became a town when it was annexed by Willacy County. The fall of Mexico in 1861 caused much upheaval throughout Southwest Texas as many people who had relied on Mexican support for their businesses lost their land and possessions. Many people in Robstown turned to Confederate service during that time period because they felt that no other country would help them unless they joined forces with the South. After secession happened, many people in Robstown decided to stay within Texas and continue to function as farmers or businessmen. In 1865, Robstown became an unincorporated community when it merged with neighboring Springdale into what is now Springdale Township. In 1902, Robbinsville incorporated as a village; however, it did not become full-fledged a town until 1957 when it merger with nearby Slaughter City to form Slaughter City-Robbinsville Township Municipality). The current name originated with a contest held by local officials to choose an appropriate name for their new municipality after its incorporation date; one entry came up with "Robstown".
