The name "Robstown" comes from Robert's Creek which flows through the community. The first settlers in Robstown were German immigrants who arrived in 1849. They set up a logging camp on the present-day site of Robstown and started to clear land for farming. In 1872, two brothers named John and James Murchison founded the town of Robstown on what is noweast side of Main Street. The Murchisons donated land for a school and churches were built soon thereafter. In 1900, Sheriff Wm Henson decided to move the county seat from Arlington to Robstown due to its proximity to Fort Worth and its growing population. In 1907, when Interstate 20 was built through Collin County, developer George Waddell purchased some properties near present-day Robstown and began construction on his rancho park which would house future shopping malls with stores like Sears and JCPenney as well as restaurants such as Paws N' All Liquors & Gourmet Grocery (later renamed Pizza Hut). Waddell also developed an oil field that provided employment for many people in rural Collin County during this time period. The oilfield was later sold off to Texaco and other companies who used it for storage or operated it as a refinery until it closed in 1984. After years of growth by businesses within the village itself as well as increased traffic on Main Street due to new development around it outside of town, residents voted in November 2006 to annex into neighboring Grapevine because they felt their community had been neglected by their small-town counterparts nearby while they grew larger and more important than ever before. This annexation not only made Robstown one of Texas' fastest Growing Cities but gave residents access to all sorts of new amenities that had been prohibited or expensively priced within Grapevine including light rail service (the old McKinley High School Campus would become known today as Grapevine Mills Mall)

The first post office in Robstown was established on December 15, 1876. The townsite was named for Isaac Robison, a pioneer settler who arrived in 1875 and soon began to develop the area around his property. By 1880, many other settlers had followed Robison to what would become Robstown. In that year, the first school opened in the town and some local businesses followed suit soon thereafter. By 1902, the population of Robstown had grown to over 100 residents and it continued to grow rapidly until 1920 when it reached its peak at just over 300 people. As more people moved into the area and industry flourished throughout much of twentieth century (including heavy manufacturing during World War II), few changes occurred within the community itself until recent decades when numerous new development projects have taken place within its borders including two shopping malls as well as a number of apartments and condos developments along with several amateur football teams that have been located here since the early 1960s (most notably the Tomball Texans franchise). Since 2000, however, Community Development District #2 has advocated for increasing access to public transportation within Robstown limits which has ultimately led to increased development opportunities across various blocks surrounding downtown as well as an increase in retail usage within walking distance of most residences while also opening up potential floodplain boundaries near Interstate 10 should future rainfall levels exceed those seen historically during summer months
