In Robstown, Texas, the first firearms were brought over by settlers in 1836. The town was founded on a ranch that belonged to J.D. Webb. In 1849, General Sam Houston got his famous victory over Mexico at the Battle of San Jacinto and gun control laws began to be put into place in the United States. As gun ownership increased, so did crime rates in Robstown. The town's first store opened in 1852 and it remained open until 1907 when it burned down. From then on, citizens had to go outside to get their groceries. In 1909, the first post office opened in Robstown and it remains open today. The town has seen many changes throughout its history including becoming a manufacturing center during World War II and later becoming an agricultural community due to its location between two major oil refineries
Robstown is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, located on the banks of the Baylor River. The population was 1,045 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by natives of Robstown, Ireland in 1872 as a farmstead and post office called Rathlin Settlement. In 1886, it incorporated as a village. In 1907, it annexed the former community of Fort Worth to its boundaries and became known as Robstown–Fort Worth. On July 15, 1912, the name change again when portions of Arlington Heights were annexed to Robstown; those annexations remain in effect today. At one time or another, all three towns have been served by Uptown Elementary School (now Highland Middle School), which has been located in Robstown since 1928. Robstown, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 709 as of the 2010 census. The name comes from Spanish meaning "town on the rio Grande". The town was founded in 1866 by John P. Roberson and his brother-in-law, James A. White. It became a local government entity in 1870 and prospered until it lost its status following the Railroad War of 1877. In that conflict, the Texas Rangers fought against the Comanche Indians while Roberson's hometown of Georgetown was destroyed by fire. In 1898, when Mexico acquired US territory north of the Rio Grande, Robstown became part of Mexican Territory No. 8 (Hidalgo County). After Mexican President Porfirio Diaz announced plans to divide this territory into three sectors for political reasons, some residents chose to remain within Hudspeth County and others moved to San Antonio or reason #2 which led them southward along I-10 towards what is now Tarrant County. The community had no schools until 1906 when one opened at nearby Commerce City under instruction from Presbyterian ministers including Revs Jno Hogg and Dr Price Hillman who also served as trustees for the new school district created there by order of Governor James Kenedy. For many years after that initial opening only white students were allowed to attend because all other races were banned at state institutions like Sam Houston State University then Baylor University during Reconstruction; this policy changed with Johnson’s Executive Order 9065 which banned racial discrimination in education establishments statewide on January 1st 1865 effective immediately although exceptions continued to be made for churches and other private institutions whose owners decided they could share their facilities with non-racial students according to their own beliefs or religious convictions rather than subscribing toward Title IV federal funds provided through Departmental regulations known as “the desegregation voucher program” administered by Education Commissioner Amos Tuttlewicz undersecretary for educational affairs Homer Sutton on behalf of Attorney General Edwin Cason who headed up Departmental Enforcement Section].]
