Robstown is located in Transitional Texas, which bordered Mexico until 1845. The town was founded by the Robstown brothers, who were pioneers in cattleraising and enterprise. In 1881, the town was renamed for General Sam Houston after his victory at San Jacinto. In 1886, a railroad station was built here and the town gradually grew as a bedroom community forDallas. By 1959, Robstown had grown to over 1,000 people and it became an agricultural center with corn, cotton, soybeans and other crops. In the early 1970s, a refinery was built here to take advantage of local resources for processed oil products.
