Robinson, Texas is a small town located in the central part of the state of Texas. The population was 2,129 at the 2010 census. Robinson is one of five towns in Whatcom County and it is included within the federal bounds of Tacoma. It was platted in 1887 by John C. Roberson, a landowner and developer from Aberdeen, Scotland. Robinson became an incorporated village in 1902 and then a town in 1907. The current name for Robinson comes from German immigrant Johann Gottfried V Loader (1797-1877), who settled there around 1840. In 1865, General Zachary Taylor fought his final battle at Gettysburg near Robinson and many residents served with distinction during that event as well as during the American Civil War. The area now known as Robinson was first populated by indigenous peoples including the Klamath tribe, which lived on what is now east side of I-5 just north of Interstate 5 exit 214A (now part of SR 520). The Klamath were later displaced by settlers coming to this region via Manifest Destiny following Ulysses S Grant’s 1868 proclamation that “the United States shall have all the territory east of Mexico without any compensation to our Mexican neighbors” pursuant to President Andrew Johnson’s executive order #27; these newcomers included Anglo-European men, women and children brought over on trips organized by promoters such as James Fenton Woodworth or Samuel Morse. In 1881, John C. Roberson established what would become Robinson Oil Company on land he had acquired south of present day Interstate 5 along US 98W between Tacoma and Aberdeen Truck stop; oil production began soon afterward onsite using crude from nearby Elk Grove Mine which opened in 1884 .
