It is named for him. The community of Robinson is located on the banks of the Arkansas River and is about 30 miles east of Wichita Falls. It has a post office with ZIP code 76501. Robinson was founded by John Robinson in 1873 as a cattle ranching town. He started out near present-day Wichita Falls and sold his land to J F Cusick in 1876. Cusick built a log courthouse which still stands today and named it after himself, Robinson Courthouse. The first school opened in 1880 and taught grades one through eight; it later became an all-girls school known as Lady Bird School before being closed in 1944 due to low enrollments. In 1924, the original town plat was filed with the Hudspeth County Land Office and included a water tower on State Highway 9 just east of present day Robinson High School – now part of US 94/I-30! On July 6, 1925, Houston Independent School District (HISD) added West Side Elementary (now East Side Elementary), South Side Elementary (now North Side Elementary) and First Ward Middle/High School to HISD’s Chanute No 3 Zone (later renamed Chilton No 2 Zone). HISD also constructed new buildings for West Side Elementary which include: A playground, basketball court, art room/library addition and science wing; SouthSide Elementary also received: A playground, basketball court, art room/library addition and science wing; First Ward Middle/High School received: An auditoriumnasium with multipurpose room addition; finally Chanute No 3 Zone lost its western boundary when Archer City annexed it on December 1st 1961 so all schools within that zone are now called Chilton No 2 Zone.. By 1970 there were only 8 students enrolled at Mrs Myra Hargrave’s home from her kindergarten class chock full of girls 10 years old or younger who had moved into Hughesville since 1963 when their home district disbanded because they were not allowed to attend HISD schools anymore! In response to increasing enrollment at Hughesville High School due to Interstate 35 construction cutting off access from that city limits paralleling state highway 9 west of what used to be Robinsons I & II homes we reorganized our students into 4 “zones” effective September 1st 1972 each represented by 4 grade levels each with one teacher student ratio ie.: PreKindergarten thru 5th grade… With more children moving away from rural areas towards urban living patterns we reverted back to Mrs Hargrave’s original strategy using mostly retiring teachers from our earlier days who served us until retirementnaturalized citizens or recent immigrants legal residents born here since January 1st 1917! Mrs Hargrave continues this practice currently serving 7th through 12th grades along side herded cats & dogs providing morning & afternoon care for many generations OF ROBINSON MEMORIAL THEATRE FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY LOCATED ON RODNEY RD JUST NORTH OF ROBINSON HIGH SCHOOL
