Henry Clay pursued land grants from Congress in 1846 and soon built an agricultural empire that included much of central Texas and portions of Oklahoma, Kansas,New Mexico Territory and California while also building up stakes in rice planting along the San Marcos River near present-day Midtown Austin. His son James Crain followed his father into politics but failed to achieve national renown like his father did before him; he instead focused on winning elections statewide for Congressman from Kansas’ 3rd congressional district which spanned much eastern Wichita County including Richmond County until Kit Carson became governor following Abraham Lincoln’s election victory over John Frémont in 1860). At age 72 years old after 36 years service as a congressman (the last 7 years all inside Wichita), James Crain died suddenly at his home on November 9th 1865 due to a stroke suffered just prior to leaving for Washington D.C.; his son JAMES CRAIN succeeded him serving out the remainder of his term (1866-1869). Following Reconstruction efforts led by President Andrew Johnson during his first term following Civil War ended with Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 local white men began organized crime activities that continues right up until today with many members still living among us including Punxsutawney Phil who made an early morning appearance this past January – 2014 only days after death certificate was issued

After Reconstruction Richmond experienced rapid growth as a center for cotton production until the late 19th century when it lost much of its population and commercial importance due to competition from Houston and Dallas. In 1925 Richmond became an independent municipality which remains today a part of Travis County, Texas.
