In 1912, Anson Mills donated land to make way for what would become Richardson Municipal Airport which served local aviation until its closure in 1982. Today, Richardson hosts several historical landmarks including Lamar University's JB Ewing Stadium which seats 78,000 spectators and home to both American football and baseball teams as well as an increasing number of functions such as concerts and professional soccer matches that have been hosted there since its opening. Additionally, Richardsons downtown core contains several shopping centers that offer numerous retail options along with restaurants and nightlife options for locals and visitors alike including The Ritz Carlton hotel which offers views overlooking downtown from its rooftop gardens overlooking MacArthur Boulevard

Richardson, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. Richardson was founded on April 15, 1876 by George Richardson and his wife Martha Ann. It became a municipality on November 3 of that year. The first post office opened in Richardson on December 6, 1876. The city's name honors General George A. Custer who died in 1847 during the Mexican–American War and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia. Richardson also has been called "Custer City" or "Custer Country." There are several Custer-related businesses located downtown including the George A. Custer Museum and Park as well as the Richardsons' ranch house which still stands today and is used for events such as rodeos and concerts. In 1903, tornado damage to the town caused it to lose its municipal status but it regained it two years later when Midland County approved a resolution endorsing incorporation of the city into the county due to its growing population. In 1907, growth within Richardson led to annexation by Dallas; Richardson then lost its charter as an incorporated municipality on July 1 of that year because of lack of voter approval for annexations from other cities into Midland County without giving NOTICE OF INQUIRY TO THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FIRST THUS BECAUSE OF THE LARGE NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES THAT WERE BEING CONDUCTED BY THE CITY AFTER ITS LOSS OF MUNICIPALITY RIGHTS. On October 2nd 1920 Mayor Jno Epps organized a citizens movement to regain their rights back after three years absence when they were not given any notice nor opportunity to be heard before commissioners prior to their decision being made without even consulting them about what they wanted or did not want done with theirCity Limits On December 8th 1920 residents met at City Hall where Mayor Epps presented a petition signed by over 100 residents demanding that they be allowed back into City limits which had been closed off since 1907 due to insufficient voter support After much discussion Commissioners agreed with Mayor Epps granting full voting rights back to the Citizens once again This was only one step in restoring order following years of chaos caused by various political powers struggles within Midland County
Richardson was founded in 1849 by James Robertson Richardson. The city became a major center for cattle and cotton production, and its railroads helped make it a major stop on the Texas Railroad System. Richardson is also known for its Richardson Aquarium and Gardens, which opened in 1968.
