Red Oak, Texas is home to one of the oldest rifle stocks in the United States. The stock company that bears the name “Red Oak Firearms” was founded in 1881 by Dr. John M. Brown and his son, Samuel W. Brown. They made their first rifles out of heavy oak logs and then began importing these rifles into America from Europe. In 1902, they opened a gunsmith shop in Red Oak and continued to make their own rifles until 1916 when they sold their business to Sperry & Hutchinson of New York City. The S&H rifle company continued making rifles until 1980 when they were bought by Remington Arms Company. From 1980-2004, Remington Arms Companyproduced over 180 million firearms including shotguns, handguns, and assault weapons through its subsidiaries including Remington Outdoor Co., Mossberg & Sons Manufacturing Inc., Hodgdon Arms Manufacturing Inc., Bushmaster Firearms Corporation, Savage Arms Corporation, Weatherby Armament Co., SIG SAUER DPMS USAInc., Scott Firearms Corporation (now Smith & Wesson) and American Samshield Corp.)

Red Oak is a town in Rockwall County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,531 at the 2010 census. Red Oak is located on the east side of the Trinity River and north of downtown Dallas. The first settler in what is now Red Oak was James Hatton in 1835. He built a log cabin on his farmstead which still stands today. John Witherspoon settled near present day Elmhurst in 1846 and also built a log cabin. A post office called Red Oak was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1865, Ulysses S. Grant helped build an early railroad line from Fort Worth to Dallas through Red Oak. This helped start the city's growth as Dallas became more important for trade and transportation. The town of Red Oak grew rapidly during this time and by 1890 had reached its current size of 2,531 people. During World War II, much of the manufacturing that took place within Red Oak took place within nearby Arlington Heights-based factories such as Allied Signal and GMC Technical Service Department plants; these plants were primarily responsible for building military vehicles such as tanks and planes but also produced other items such as radios, tires, ammunition (including artillery shells), fighter jets etc., all of which were allocated to various war efforts across Europe or Asia via shipping containers or directly to Japanese forces fighting against British troops occupying Singapore (the Battle of Singapore). Many residents who lived within easy reach of these production facilities lost their jobs during wartime due to shortages caused by wartime mobilization; however, many continue to live here today thanks to strong community spirit and support from local businesses that have continued since the end of hostilities several years ago
