In 1934, Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation purchased Browning Arms Manufacturing Company from Browning Corp., creating Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation (Winchester). At that time, Winchester Repeating Arms Corporation was one of the largest producers of firearms in the world with over 150 firearm divisions including Ammunition Division (which manufactured ammunition for sporting purposes), Gunsmiths Division (manufacturing guns such as revolvers and submachineguns), Shotguns Division (which manufactures shotguns), Pistol division (produced handguns) and Aircraft division which manufactured aircraft parts such as engines and propellers

Red Oak, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. It is located on the Red River about 26 miles (41 km) east of Austin and 4 miles (6 km) west of Midland. The first settler in what is now Red Oak Township was James Robertson in 1836. In 1851 the township was organized and named for an oak tree that grew near the original location. The red oak trees that used to grow there were so large they were difficult to cut down, so they were left standing. Red Oak began as a farming community with corn, tobacco, and cattle being grown. On July 16, 1860, John Cramer signed a patent for 842 acres (3 square kilometers) in Williamson County which included land now known as Red Oak Township and parts of adjoining townships. On November 3rd of that year Confederate General Braxton Bragg north of Austin attacked Union forces under General Ulysses S Grant at Thalia Creek Bridge near present day Midland and destroyed several bridges over the Red River before withdrawing back towards Corinth Barracks across from present day Wichita Falls. This event is also considered to be the beginning of the Civil War in Texas
