The first gun lights were placed in Red Oak, Texas on October 1, 1903. At the time these devices were called “ sidelight pistols”. The device was a small light that mounted on the top of the pistol and was used to help identify targets in close range.
Red Oak is a town in East Texas on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 1,695 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Red Oak is located on State Highway 114 and Tyler County Road 428. The first European to visit what is now Red Oak was Captain John Smith in 1736 when he stopped there for supplies during his attempt to find a route to Louisiana. Red Oak was platted in 1847 by citizens of Galveston who were alarmed at the spread of slavery in Texas. The townsite had been purchased from an Indian chief by General Sam Houston as part of his Treaty of Riceville (1845). The town name may be derived from "oak" which means "a large tree with strong branches." The post office was established in 1851, and named for General Houston's daughter Fannie Houston Clearwater. In 1861, Confederate soldiers burned down a Methodist church near the town center after learning that its pastor, Hernando Woodson had warned Texans about Union troops marching through nearby Dallas. A two-story frame school building replaced the old structure; it still stands today and serves as city hall. In 1865, Red Oaks became one of Godfrey's Two Hundred Towns set up along railways line westward into Kansas Territory following Kansas' admission into the Union as a state on November 16th, 1865; this made Red Oak one of only five towns east of Austin to remain unincorporated throughout their incorporation into larger jurisdictions including Austin and localities such as Round Rock and Georgetown before Kansas seceded from the United States on January 14th, 1907 becoming an independent state known commonly as Oklahoma (see History Lesson:Oklahoma). When completed, Godfrey's Railway connected Wichita Falls with Denver mainline railway yards just outside downtown Wichita Falls; this made RedOak become isolated from other southeastern towns offering access to railroad transportation & commerce - until Wichita Falls itself annexed neighboring Cedar Rapids in 1901 becoming Wichita Falls/Cedar Rapids combined statistical area encompassing all unincorporated eastern Tyler County except Cedar Park/Red Oak proper while Cedar Park reverted back within Tyler County limits again starting 1895 until annexation by Cedar Rapids once again creating two statistical areas but still remaining altogether withinEast Texas county boundaries although both entities are now considered independent municipalities under jurisdiction & control of respective governing boards

In 1922, John Browning invented his first repeating rifle which became known as the Browning Hi-Power Rifle. This weapon is still popular today and is used in various hunting activities around the world

Red Oak, Texas was founded by the Comanche tribe in 1836. The town was named for the oak trees that lined the town's main street. The first store in Red Oak opened in 1839. In 1846, a post office was established in Red Oak and it remained open until 1949.
