Portland, Texas is located in Midland County, Texas on the banks of the Colorado River. The population was 2,848 as of the 2010 census. It is a small town with a rich history and culture that has been passed down through its residents for over 120 years. The Portland area began to form in 1873 when two men named John Fenton and Hiram Sibley brought cattle to this area from Wichita, Kansas. They built a ranch on what is now known as State Road 101 near present-day Lockhart. This ranch was the first time that cattle were brought into this part of Midland County. The first post office in Portland was established in 1875. In 1916, Oregon Electric Railway company built a line from Lubbock to Portland and renamed it the Oregon Railroad Company Line (ORTL). The ORTL continued to serve as the main east-west route in Midland County until it merged with the Texaco Oil Company Railroad in 1937. Portland saw some growth during World War II due to its location at points along military supply routes running through Midland County. This includes amenities such as an airfield and munitions plant that were developed during World War II by local businesses and citizens. The town experienced some other setbacks during the 1970s and 1980s when large oil companies abandoned their factories and jobs within town limits caused significant economic decline throughout much of downtown Portland; however, recent investments by downtown business owners have given back portions of downtown Portland, including restaurants and bars close to Interstate 10/US 281/Upper Broadway Street which has helped revive many aspects of downtown Portland's economy since 2000

Portland, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 705 at the 2010 census. Portland is named after Captain John Fitch who founded Fort Worth in 1836. It was first settled by Texans and Englishmen in the 1830s as part of the Republic of Texas. In 1849, it became the capital of Hudspeth County and soon afterwards developed into a thriving agricultural center with hundreds of slaves working on its plantations. By 1860, Portland had become an important railroad stop for goods travelling east to Dallas and west to Missouri City. However, during the American Civil War, Portland sided with Confederate forces and lost most of its buildings and people to Battle Creek Campaigns. The war destroyed most of the economy and many residents returned home shortly afterward - though some continued to reside there until after Reconstruction in 1870. In 1925, Oregon Highway 96 was routed through Portland linking it with nearby Austin through what is now eastern Travis County; this highway made it easier for farmers to bring their crops into town from outlying areas such as Humble rancho de las Palmas (now northeast Houston) while still keeping supplies moving southward between Hudspeth County's two major cities without having to go all the way through Austin or Corpus Christi Bayou. As a result of these changes, Portland grew quickly becoming one of Hudspeth County's biggest towns by 1930; by that point, it had also acquired its current name: Portland because it lay along Interstate 10 Spur 524 east of downtown; other NAAs used at that time included US 95WNW- concurrent with I-10E before SR 20 connecting San Antonio proper via Midland Avenue just north of downtown (and concurrent with US 281 until 1960). The post-World War II years were tough for Portland; however, thanks largely to transplants from Plains liberals like Earl Warren Jr., congressman from California’s 8th District who represented much of East Texas during that era’s period when Ulysses S Grant’s party held control over Congress nationwide – more than 1 million newcomers poured into what would become Houston following World War II seeking opportunities found only east or northof Loop 610 freeway – business boomed thanks not only to cheap labor but also government subsidies which kept prices low no matter how hard production increased elsewhere – within five years nearly every job opened up due simply to Chandler winds changing everything overnight including our ability back then too build things like switchbacks above creek bed so we could get power lines up high running parallel below grade instead off road we did & brought light back down where people used candles since there was none yet nobody built any kind if lights so you can see anything now [during conversation] self destructing tape measure
