In the early 1900s, Portland, Texas was a small agricultural town of about 10,000 people. The local gunsmiths supplied rifles and shotguns to the farmers and ranchers in the area. In 1912, Portland firemen used their shotguns to quench gasoline spilled from a locomotive when it derailed. In 1938, the United States Post Office moved from its original location on Main Street to an annex on SW Morrison Avenue in Portland. On October 21, 1939, Oregon statehood was granted to the United States of America. As part of that process, the U.S. Post Office relocated its operations to what is now NW Alberta Street in Portland. At this time, handguns were not yet legal in Oregon and Master Gunsmiths were not common occurrences in this rural community (except for antique firearms). On November 3rd 1951- during the height of tensions over Korean War allegiances- two pistols each were stolen from two different post office employees at separate locations within minutes of one another inside a building on NE Stark Street in Portland proper (just east of Pioneer Courthouse Square). The thefts led to increased police activity around post offices as criminals became emboldened by wartime security measures put into place due to fears that more guns would be stolen during peace time than during World War II. In 1957- just four years afterguns had become legal- a store called "The Gun Shop" was opened by Lyle Denton at 2400 SW 8th Ave., across from Alta Mesa High School[1]. This was one of several stores across western Oregon opening up shop following passage of proscriptions against selling handguns nationally effective February 14th 1957[2]. A few weeks later on March 2nd 1957 another store called "The Pistol Place" opened at 820 Nw 5th Ave., also across from Alta Mesa High School[3][4]. All three stores were open until sometime after May 9th 1957 when they all closed because they were unable to get permits from city hall allowing them to open with handgun sales[5][6]. By late summer 57 it appeared that handguns had spread through much of northwest Oregon and handgun sales had resumed at all three stores excepting perhaps one or two lingering days per week sporadicly before permittees could reenter buildings [7][8], although some customers may have still brought their old rifles into these stores for safekeeping between transactions
Portland, Texas is a small town located in the Lone Star State. The population was 9,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area and is included in the Texas metropolitan area. The city of Portland was founded in 1887 by James Irvine and his wife Anna as a trading post on an old Mexican trade route between San Antonio and Nuevo Laredo. The original site was on the banks of the Colorado River, but it soon developed into a thriving town with grain mills, breweries, stores, churches and homes. By 1912 Portland had become one of America's preeminent cotton ports - serving both Texas and Mexico. In that year Oregon Timber Company president David Atchison built what is now Atchison Hall to house his administrative offices for the company's growing empire. The building became one of Portland's most iconic landmarks and symbolized its status as an American "gilded age" city. Portland lost itseminence as a cotton port during World War I because production shifted to other regions; however, it grew rapidly during World War II as Oregon became wartime capital of the United States under President Franklin D. Roosevelt due to its strategic location near points of potential supply for military goods such as oil refineries and munitions plants. During this time Portland achieved national attention for its beautiful downtown buildings – becoming known as "the City Beautiful." After war ended Portland experienced rapid growth in single-family housing: construction began on scores of thousands of homes from 1950 through 1970 alone; however, since then residential development has slowed down markedly while new businesses have mushroomed (see image). Today much of downtown remains empty except for occasional events or casual visitors who visitduring business hours or when there are special events scheduled at nearby government buildings likePDX Federal Credit Union or MAX Light Rail stop #2 (pictured below). Most people refer toPortland simply as "The City."

This kit contained two parts: a canister containing ammonia gas and an automatic pistol trigger guard scraper. The BAPC became popular due its simplicity and easy use. From 1890-1910, other manufacturers offered their own versions of gun cleaners including those by Colt, Winchester, Remington, Savage Arms, Ruger Firearms Company etcetera (although most were similar in concept).

During its time as an independent city, Portland experienced a number of legal challenges including being awarded the right to secede from Houston in 1984 and having its own mayor during the 1990s when city government was merged with Harris County government. Despite these challenges, Portland has remained an important cultural and commercial center intxarxa because it is located close to major universities such as Rice University and Baylor University as well as a growing number of businesses such as Amazon Web Services, Starbucks Coffee Company and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Inc..
Portland, Texas was founded in 1872 by James F. McMillan and named for the English port of Portsmouth. The town flourished as a lumber and farming center during the early years of its existence, but declined after World War I when the military moved away and production shifted to other areas. Portland experienced a resurgence in the late 1800s thanks to a growth in manufacturing and trade, but continued decline following World War II until it became an unimportant stop on the Interstate Highway System.
