Although bombing raids against Tokyo killed more than 13500 people during World War II—a number which still looms large over Portland—the city survived unscathed thanks largely to its robust commercial infrastructure and population density make it one of North America's most bombed-out cities today (though not alone). Despite all these successes – both local and global –Portland ultimately faded into obscurity after 1945 untilantha point where it gained attention again when developer David Hutchinson announced plans for development near Pioneer Hall Square on SW Morrison St., fronting onto Beaver Creek Canyon National Recreation Area This former industrial area had been used for farming dating back at least 1875 but noone knew how or when it would be developed into an urban area because there were no transportation connections between Oregon City/Beaver Creek Canyon east side valley (northwest corner) & southside valley (& east side canyon).
