In the early 1900s, Port Neches (now in Texas) was a small town of about 100 people. It was located on the banks of the Neches River, and it became known for its soft gun cases. The first soft gun case company in Port Neches was founded by Mr. Sinkler in 1907. The company manufactured pistols and revolvers from walnut wood. The company also exported its products to various countries around the world. By the 1940s, there were several softgun case companies operating in Port Neches. One of these companies was J&B Gun Company LLC, which manufacturing pistols from hardwood. Another company that operated in Port Neches during this time was Browning Arms & Ammunition Inc., which manufactured revolvers from oakum-based stocks. However, by the 1960s, all of these companies had either been merged or went out of business. In 1966, Mr. Harry Waddell opened his own firm, H&W Firearms Corporation Ltd., within the boundaries of Port Neches Municipal Airport property lot #2 (now owned by AFB San Antonio). At this time, H&W Firearms Corporation produced handguns made out of ABS plastic instead of walnut wood or oakum-based stocks as well as rifles and shotguns using state-of-the-art technology. This new company quickly became successful and soon became one of the leadingsoftgun manufacturers in America!

The area around present-day Port Neches was first settled by Comanches and Kiowa Indians in the 1830s before becoming part of SpanishTexas during the Mexican–American War era. In 1876, when James Fenton discovered oil shale near present-day Port Neches he named it "Neches", after his father's birthplace in Northern Ireland. In 1959, President Eisenhower authorized construction of the Interstate 10 bypass around Port Neches which has resulted in many jobs for local residents over the years including truck drivers and manufacturers who produce parts for cars and other vehicles along I-10. The original town center had several stores, a post office, a gas station/convenience store and two churches until 1967 when all but one were closed due to desegregation efforts at then-Houston Independent School District (HISD). HISD reopened most of those buildings with new front doors but also replaced most windows with white glass because black students were not allowed into white schools at that time. At that time Port Nechs had only one black school pupil out of 227 total students attending HISD's high school; however there were more than 50 African American households living within 1 mile (1 km) of HSD's campus! The City Council voted on December 5th1967 to rename itself "Port Neches" following plans by then Mayor John Wirth to commemorate cotton farmers who lost their land during Hurricane Ike while still living on it - an event which took place just east of downtown Port Nchers on Nov 22nd2005

The history of Port Neches dates back to when it was part of the Mexican territory of Coahuila y Tejas. In 1848, American settlers arrived in what is now Port Neches and began to rename it after their hometowns – New Orleans for Hogg, Cincinnati for Warrick, Philadelphia for Brownell and others. In 1904, the town became a county seat and remained so through most of its history. During World War II, Port Neches played an important role as a munitions plant that produced war materials for the United States military. After the war, Ports growth slowed due to changes in local economic conditions but resumed in the 1990s with new development including office parks and casinos. Today, Port Neches continues to be an important center for trade and industry with many notable businesses located within its boundaries
