Port Neches is a city in Texas and the county seat of Neches County. The population was 1,911 at the 2010 census. It is the eighth-largest city in Texas and the fourth-largest in Brazoria County. The town was founded by Ira Taylor in 1836 as a trading post on an old Indian trail between Clear Lake and Houston. In 1849, Port Neches became the first U.S. port to be opened to imports from Europe after being built on the banks of Buffalo Bayou by General Sam Houston's forces duringthe Mexican–American War. The economy of Port Neches has been strongly dependent on agriculture since its founding; today, it is one of the leading agricultural areas in Texas with more than 60% of its GDP coming from agriculture. The main crops are cotton, corn, soybeans, pigs, cattle, wheat, rice, and sorghum; also grown are fruit trees such as apples and pears; some factories have closed but many remain in operation due to their scale or location within close proximity to major highways for easy access by consumers. A large portion of Interstate 10 passed through downtown Port Neches when it was built as part of Project 66 which connected Dallas and Houston; now I-10 bypasses most parts of town except for a small section near Highway 694 which remains open to traffic while development takes place around it (this stretch forms what used to be known as "The Loop" ). Downtown Port Neches was once home to two movie theaters: Regal Westwood Plaza (now Sears) and AMC Northpark Stadium (now NRG Park). Today only Regal Westwood Plaza remains open with no plans underway for any new theater construction within downtown Port Neches itself - this makes it one of largest box office failures in TX history! Downtown Port Niques also contains several smaller businesses that continue to do well despite having very limited space inside municipally owned buildings like Walmart or KFC/Domino's - these include Pinnacle Fitness located just east off US 90 & FM 4553 (just northwest from downtown), Artisan Bakery & Cafe which fronts FM 6552 off US 90 just southwest of downtown – both businesses have seen growth over the last decade due largely to tourists visiting nearby Fort Worth for its Arts Festival or other events instead!

Port Neches is a small town in Chambers County, Texas, United States. It is the county seat of Chambers County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,667. The name may come from Spanish meaning "haven" or "promontory." The first human settlement in what is now Port Neches was made by Captain James A. Cook on July 22, 1824 while exploring the Brazos River area for new land grants. Cook's party included two men and ten horses, but no women or children were with them. The first permanent resident in what is now Port Neches was James Waggoner who arrived in 1827 as part of a group led by General Sam Houston to explore and claim lands east of San Antonio for the Republic of Texas. He named his place Waco after some friends he had in Waco, Texas - San Augustine (present-day Austin) then part of Mexico City. In 1829 Anthony Bowen founded Bowen's Forts which served as an important military site during the American Civil War because it was located on an important natural chokepoint between Confederate forces and Union forces along the Trinity River near Fort Worth and Baylor University. In 1865 George Hogg founded Hogg & Company mercantile business which became one of largest businesses in town limits today before merging with Sears Roebuck & Co.. In 1907 George Ramsey opened a grocery store at Fourth Street and Interstate 10 which became one of city's most popular tourist attractions until its closing due to economic decline around that time. When I-10 was built through downtown Port Neches in 1969 there were plans to demolish much of old downtown including both stores but fortunately a citizens' action saved them from demolition thanks to fundraising efforts by community groups like Save Our Heritage Committee formed at that time). In 1956 Isaac Newton Brownell opened his first ExxonMobil refinery here becoming one of only two such refineries west of Mexico City outside Dallas/Fort Worth when it began production four years later followed by Shell Oil Refining Corporation three years later making this entire area an oil refinery belt with about twenty major refineries active at any given time producing petroleum products including gasoline (high octane), kerosene (light octane), diesel fuel (synthetic), asphalt and other materials used within our daily lives. Today we still see examples related to everyday life like paper towel machines dispensing single use plastic bags instead reusable cloth bags produced locally out back using post-consumer resources available here too just as we have seen local truck stop restaurants sprung up all over Throughout history gradually changing hands etc...
