Port Neches, Texas is a small city located in Wilson County, Texas on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 24,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town began as a fishing village on the edge of what is now Port Neches Naval Air Station. In 1865, General Sam Houston bought 1,000 acres (500 ha) of land south of present-day Port Neches and called it Neches County. The first post office in Port Neches opened in 1868. In 1902, John Wilshere moved his family to Port Neches from Spring Branch, Texas and started a blacksmith shop that became one of the largest smiths in Texas. Wilshere also owned and operated a grocery store in downtown Port Neches until he sold it to A.F. Hammons in 1924. In 1925, J H Ellis leased 2 acres (100 m2) from Dr Eppa Smith for $3 per acre (0·9 ha). Ellis built an early cotton gin and used it to produce cottonseed oil until 1913 when he sold it to Mr Fenton Richards for $1 per acre (0·24 ha). Richards developed a fertilizer business with his neighbor Alva Liles which made him wealthy by 1912 when oil production began at Aransas Pass field near today's La Vernia Airport. From 1917 through 1923, J H Ellis served as Sheriff of Wilson County while working under then-Governor James Buchanan as Deputy Attorney General during Reconstructionism; this period also saw some large landowners purchase or start operations within the town limits including Mrs Beecher Cook's Dress Barns & Cattle Market(now known as Walmart), Dr Eppa Smith's Drugstore(later renamed First Baptist Church), Piggly Wiggly hamburgers stand across I-10 west from present day Pizza Hut north side along US 69W about half way between TX 290S/I-10 east border/north side), various other businesses such as Mrs Cook's three grain Elevator(now known as Midland Millsgrain Elevators), Dollar Store built 1926 by J H Ellis son Harry after mother died giving birth to him., etc.). Today only two buildings remain: old Depot building on SW corner Railroad Ave.(formerly Post Office Annex Building?) - Note : One story building on SW corner Railroad Ave still stands with attached garage where post office once stood ; original gabled roofed section had slate siding but was replaced with metal sheeting and now has plastic gutters Ulysses S Grant once said "If you want something done well hereabouts... go to PortNechs." This statement would later be proven true during WWII when many local servicemen were drafted into service at nearby San Antonio airfields like Roswell Field or Corpus Christi Naval Base responsible for construction projects such as hurricane relief work or landing strips for bombers; most returned home shortly after hostilities ceased due to lack of opportunities available back home In fact all major combat units active during World War II located within 30 miles (48 km) radius surrounding Fort Worth except Marine Corps who deployed their installations closer to Dallas

Port Neches is a town located in Texas, United States. The population was 9,391 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Port Neches was founded in 1875 by the railroad company as a small military post on the banks of Buffalo Bayou. In 1907, it became an agricultural center with a flour mill, corn cribs, and other cotton production facilities. By 1959, however, Port Neches had become one of the most prosperous communities in Austin County. Its economy has been based on its large college campus and its exposure to agriculture and trade; since 2000, however, Port Neches has been experiencing rapid economic growth as a bedroom community for Austin and surrounding counties. The first school in Port Neches was built in 1875 by Ayer School District No 3 students under teacher John Witherspoon; it served grades 1-8 until 1893 when a new school building was constructed on Main Street (now US 281). The first high school in Port Neches opened in 1917; it served grades 9-12 until 1958 when it merged with Ayer High School to form Central High School. In 1954–55, two years after Education Department Director James Gorman's visit to Port Nechs—during which he recommended that local schools merge into one district—the City Council established what would eventually be called the "Central School District" (CSD) of Austin County. With only eight elementary schools and three high schools within CSD boundaries (Ayer High School being combined with Central High School), there were many worries that portnichians would not have access to quality education if they remained separate from their more affluent neighbors north of I-35W or east of Interstate 10. However, Gorman's report convinced the City Council that consolidation would lead to better educational opportunities for all citizens regardless of social status or financial resources. To date this merger has resulted in over 200 students graduating from CSD colleges and universities each year – demonstrating both the success of CSD operations and how easily talented students can access quality education when unification occurs between districts."
Port Neches is a small town located in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,641 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1836 by John White and Dr. Isaac Anny as an agricultural outpost on the Red River near present day Waco, Texas. It became a post office on December 12th, 1836 and soon developed as a developing township with two churches (Baptist and Methodist) and six sawmills that produced lumber for local buildings and ships. In 1849 it had a Post Office & Lumber Merchants store which closed in 1954. In 1860 Port Neches had three blocks of single story brick homes built by Elisha Goodloe who also donated land to the community for public use including a schoolhouse and300 acres (120 hectares) of land east of the village limits that became known as "Goodloe's Prairie". Goodloe died in 1865 while serving as mayor of Port Neches. His wife Sarah erected his stone homestill standing today at 602 Second Street NW across from his original farmstead site/garden still used today by descendants of him & Sarah Goodloe
