Port Neches is a town in Chambers County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,554 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Port Neches were farmers who arrived around 1851. By 1860, there were nine families living in the community and three churches serving the townspeople. In 1865, a post office was established and by 1870, Port Neches had a population of seventy-two residents. A school was built in 1871 and by 1880, there were twenty-one businesses in the community with a payroll of $1,824 per year. In 1901, four brothers founded the Brown Oil Refinery which would become one of the largest oil refineries on earth for over fifty years until it closed its doors in 1976. With its large refinery facilities and production capabilities (second only to that at ExxonMobil), Port Neches played an important role during both World War I and World War II as well as providing support for many local industries such as aircraft manufacturing and shipbuilding. The local economy has gradually changed over time however; most notably since 2000 when hydraulic fracturing began to be used extensively within Texas’s oilpatch due to its many benefits (ease of access to resources, low environmental impact). Today's Port Neches is still home to a diverse mix of cultural experiences including arts & music festivals throughout the year as well as golf tournaments and rodeo events that attract thousands of visitors each year from all over North America.

Port Neches, Texas is a city in Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,986 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hardin County. The area that would become Port Neches was first settled by Texans in 1836 as part of the Mexican War efforts to gain possession of Chihuahua and California. A stop on the Santa Fe Trail led to its incorporation as a town in 1839. By 1865 it had grown rapidly due to its position on the Brazos River and its location near railroad lines which allowed for easy access to goods shipping from points east. In 1907 hard-working men from Houston formed the Port Neches Cotton Company and began marketing cotton products from local plantations south of Port Neches. This new industry helped grow the economy ofport neches while also creating jobs for locals who were responsible for harvest, processing, and shipping products back home. During World War II more than 20,000 American citizens served in various branches of service within our country’s military including those serving as harbor pilots throughout Texas Ports Area Naval Air Station Point Roberts (Portsmouth) - now Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland (JBAL) – and Corpus Christi/Houston Airport which became USS Hornet aircraft carrier strike group 5th Fleet’s homeport after VE Day when Japan surrendered unconditionally ending World War II. After hostilities ended many families returned home to find their properties had been taken over by friends or relatives who continued farming or ranching operations until well into the 21st century.
In 1849, the first steamboat on the Texas River was built by John D. Rockefeller and named the "Neches". The Neches was used to transport goods from New Orleans to Galveston. It was also used to transport people and goods between ports in southeastern Texas. In 1853, a railroad was built through southeastern Texas and Neches became a major port for shipping goods. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina and Neches became one of the few points in Texas where Confederate troops were able to transit through. After the fall of Confederate States of America, Neches became an important port for bringing foodstuffs into Texas.
