There is a long and varied self defense weapons history in the city of Port Lavaca, Texas. The city was founded in 1879 by Captain John A. Hodge and his crew of settlers as a stop on their way to the cattle ranch north of Lubbock. The first self-defense weapon introduced into Port Lavaca was a revolver bought from an Indian trader named Peebles. A few years later,Port Lavaca obtained its own rifle range and began selling rifles to local farmers and ranchers. In 1905, the city acquired its first gun shop, which served as the center for training for law enforcement officers and other public safety officials. In 1932, City Hall was destroyed by a fire which left much of the building ruined. However, within five years of the fire, City Hall had been rebuilt with modern amenities including an armory and pistol range. In 1937, Port Lavaca became one of thirty-six towns in Texas that joined together to form the Lone Star State Federation. This federation represented various interests in local government including defense arts and technology, sanitation/water resources, business regulation and taxation among others In 1959,Port Lavaca annexed Alpine County which located about twenty miles west of town along United States 290 corridor on county line between Alpine County and Tarrant County The annexation resulted in Seeley Field Air Force Base being established adjacent to Town Park near what is now Interstate 10 . There were three main purposes for Seeley Field: air force operations (the original home field), Army troop barracks (later converted into Motel 6) used during World War II while Fort Worth Airport was used as overflow facilities ;and finally research laboratories associated with Clearview Industries who conducted Shockwave Research at Seeley Field until it closed in 1977

Port Lavaca, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Corpus Christi metropolitan area. The first people to live in Port Lavaca were Texans who came overland from what is now Mexico in 1835. A post office was established in 1836 and started receiving mail from Galveston. In 1840, a wharf was built on the bayou for shipping goods coming into and out of Houston. In 1849, citizens of Port Lavaca voted to create a city government with its own Mayor and City Council. The city directory for 1850 notes that “the port has been doing well since it was founded” although trade had dwindled because of navigation problems caused by hurricane Ike in 2008 The first school in Port Lavaca opened its doors on October 10th, 1870 as Pritchard School #1 which served students from poor families living on the waterfront through high school education Then followed two years of teaching by Mrs. Clements until it closed due to financial difficulties By 1872 there were five schools open: Humble School #2 (for girls), First Baptist Church #3 (for boys), Methodist Episcopal Church #4 (for girls), graded public school called Brownsville High School #5 (grades 3-8) and one private school called Stroud Academy which opened in 1875 There were also several businesses including three stores, two wharves and an arsenal . By 1880 there were 11 businesses with a payroll of $2,500 In 1886 the railroad arrived providing jobs for locals as well as transportation for goods moving between Houston and San Antonio . This increased trade and commerce that led to more development such as new homes being built along the bayou
The town of Port Lavaca, Texas was founded in 1849 by the brothers John and James Robertson. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s, thanks to its location on the Brazos River and its access to timber and cattle resources. In 1872, Port Lavaca became a city when it was annexed by Austin.
