In 1980, Nikon Incorporated ceased production of Rifle Scopes and all remaining equipment was sold off to various companies including Green Mountain Optics Corporation (now Vortex) which continues manufacture today
Port Lavaca is a small town in Brownsville, Texas. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hidalgo County. It is located on the shore of Lake Texoma and its ZIP Code is 87213. The town was founded in 1877 by John Waddell and his family after they left Nacogdoches, Texas to escape Indian Territory. The first post office in Port Lavaca opened in 1880. In 1907, the city of Brownsville was incorporated and renamed Port Lavaca after its founder, James A. Browning (1863-1937). In 1924, Port Lavaca became a part of the new State of Texas when it was created from portions of Hidalgo and Travis Counties. In 1960, it merged with neighboring McAllen to form the current municipality of McAllen/Port Lavaca. The population declined during the 1990s as oil production diminished and people moved away for other reasons; however, this has reversed since 2000 as petroleum production resumed and more people have chosen to live there permanently or move there when their jobs relocated elsewhere in Texas or Mexico. Today's economy revolves around agriculture, manufacturing (especially textiles), tourism (particularly on Lake Texoma), light industrial development (mostly for processing materials used by auto manufacturers), and retail services such as convenience stores and small businesses that serve residents’ needs within walking distance from most homes. There are also several restaurants located within a few miles of any house or business in town which provide healthy food options not often found near larger townships or cities across North America

Port Lavaca, Texas is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz and the second-largest city in Hidalgo County. It is located on the Gulf of Mexico just south of Brownsville and east of Mexicali. The population was 10,805 as of 2010. The name "Lavaca" comes from Spanish meaning "bank." The first European to visit Port Lavaca was Juan de la Garza, who landed there on July 3, 1519 with his ship La Flota del Rio Bravo. He named it San Miguel de Allende after his personal home town in Spain. In 1763, Captain James Cook charted what would become Lávaca Bay as part of his voyage around the world. In 1836, Antonio Lopez y Costilla founded the Don José Lopez Adobe (later known as Lávaca Adobe) near present-day downtown Port Lavaca to provide agricultural goods to nearby Mexico City during its time under siege by American forces at Texan Independence War general Travis' ill-fated Alamo operation in April–May 1836. At that time Lávaca was also known as Boca Chica due to its natural harbor accommodating several small boats used for smuggling purposes between ports along the Mexican coast and New Orleans across Lake Pontchartrain - an important seaport for trade during the early days of Ulysses S. Grant's presidency when Houston served as Vice President and Commandant General of Texan Forces in Louisiana (1865–68). In 1916 don Crisanto Flores donated land within what is now downtown Port Lavaca for a new high school which would eventually be renamed Don Crisanto Flores High School after him in 1978; this event helped spur development around downtown Port Lavaca including businesses such as Home Depot, FedEx etc., making it one of the most developed areas in town today with many nightlife options available both inside and outside Downtown Plaza Mall! With all these new developments going on within Downtown Plaza Mall over those past few decades or so, one could say that portlavacas history has definitely had some twists and turns throughout!
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway opened a line from Port Lavaca to Albuquerque in 1881. The line was abandoned in 1965.
