In Port Arthur, Texas on May 26, 1859, a group of men met to discuss the purchase of arms. They decided that they would need more than just pistols and shotguns to protect themselves from Indians. They needed cannons as well. At this meeting, it was decided that Captain John Waddell would lead the purchasing expedition for the town. Waddell had been in Texas since 1849 and had served in the militia during the Indian Wars. He knew what he wanted and was able to find some of the best cannons available in America. The expedition arrived in Port Arthur on July 2, 1859 with 12 cannons and 4 pistols. The townspeople were not happy with this invasion of their territory by outside forces. They tried to stop Waddell from buying any weapons but he was unyielding and bought even more guns. By September 8, 1859,Port Arthur had over 40 cannons and 20 pistols - perfect for defense against any Indian attack! This success led to other towns following Port Arthur's example and beginning to arm themselves with artillery as well. The rifles that these new owners acquired became known as "PortArthur cannon." This history is represented by two structures located in downtown Port Arthur: Waddell House (now a museum) and Fort Worth Arsenal (now part of Sam Houston State University). These buildings are important because they are both associated with Captain John Waddell's expedition which brought firearms into town for the first time in history!

Port Arthur is a town in Texas, United States. The population was 9,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first people to settle in what is now Port Arthur were Native Americans who hunted game near present-day Hearn Lake. A post office was established at present-day PortArthur on April 14, 1872,under the name of Fort Worth Enterprise. In 1881, when it became a county seat, Port Arthur received its own courthouse and jail complex; however these facilities were destroyed during World War II when Allied forces burned much of downtown. In 1906 an act was passed which created new township boundaries; within this new township there were no townships but five polling places for citizens to vote in elections for school trustees (later renamed council members). On November 3rd 1907 a fire destroyed most of downtown including all three courthouses; however due to donations from individuals and businesses many structures were rebuilt or replaced such as Baptist church which still stands today . A public library opened on October 16th 1913 at Seventh Street NW by then Mayor Henson Wylie with funds from Jeph Loeb’s First National Bank number 811 Main Street – also known as “The Star” bank building that still stands today across Harlingen Boulevard from City Hall

Port Arthur is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located on the Gulf of Mexico between Corpus Christi and Refugio Island. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. The town was founded by Anglo-American settlers in 1845 as a steamboat landing on the bayou that ran through present-day Port Arthur. The name derived from an early Spanish grant to José de Armas for 365 leagues (1,615 miles) along the coast of Texas, including all or parts of what are now Galveston and Austin counties. In 1865, when General Antonio López de Santa Anna took command of Mexican forces during their unsuccessful attempt to quash American defiance of Mexican rule, he ordered his troops to burn down many churches and other religious buildings in Texas towns across its territory including Port Arthur. As a result of this event known as "The Black Week", many white Texans fled or were driven out of their homes in what is now Brazoria County; most notably Andrew Johnson who moved to Houston after being inaugurated as president on April 14th 1865 and never returned to Port Arthur until his death there four years later on December 12th 1870 due to pneumonia contracted while visiting his ranch near San Marcos de Tamaulipas y Acosta National Park near San Fernando Valley California
Port Arthur, Texas was founded in 1836 by Stephen F. Austin and then named for the port of Arthur, England. The town grew rapidly and by 1854 had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1859, the town became an independent republic and was renamed Austin City Limits after the event that made it so: the first live music performance ever held in Austin. The city limits expanded rapidly and in 1916 they annexed parts of Fort Worth.
