In the early 1800s, Port Arthur was a bustling town with a population of around 10,000. The town was located on the Texas-Mexico border and became known for its firearms manufacturing industry. In 1853, Port Arthur was renamed Fort Worth after then-President James K. Polk announced that Texas would become a state and Fort Worth would become the capital. The firearms industry in Fort Worth declined during the 1870s and 1880s due to competition from other states in the Midwest and West. However, it restarted in the 1890s thanks to new investors who saw potential in the emerging American market for shotguns and rifles. This period is also associated with some of the most famous firearm manufacturer’s in history including Colt Firearms Company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Remington Arms Company, Savage Arms Company, Browning Firearms Corporation and many more. During this time period, there were several mass shootings throughout America which led to increased awareness of gun safety laws and kept firearms manufacturers afloat. One such event occurred at Columbine School located in Littleton Colorado on April 20th 1999 where 19 students and 6 staff members were killed by two gunmen while attending an educational event sponsored by Gander Mountain Gun Show Incorporated (GIMS). This tragedy served as a catalyst for tighter regulation of gun sales across America which has led to safer communities today.

In 1879, Port Arthur was founded by General Sam Houston as a military post on the Texas-Mexico border. The town grew rapidly during the late 1800s thanks to its natural resources and connections to Mexico City. In 1903, Port Arthur became a city and soon developed into one of the most important ports in the Lone Star State.Gun control advocates in Texas favored gun prohibition over decades, but eventually they succumbed to pressure from NRA lobbyists and others in government. Gun control laws were finally passed in 1934 following a series of mass shootings at local schools.
Port Arthur is a small town located in the Texas Panhandle, about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. The population was 3,598 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Brazos County, Texas, municipality. The town was founded by Germans in 1847 and named after Captain Augustus Herrmann, a U.S. Navy officer who had been landed at Corpus Christi on July 4, 1846 to pursue piracy off the coast of Mexico. The first store opened in 1850 and the first post office in 1852. In 1861, Confederate General James Hogg surrendered Fort Worth to Union forces under General Robert E Sanderson. This event led to a large influx of German-Americans into Port Arthur and also increased trade between Port Arthur and Dallas because both cities depended on cotton exports for their revenues. In 1865, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, Mayor John Schieffer requested that Fort Worth build a military fort on his citizens' land so that Port Arthur could not become an open city like Dallas because it would have put its economic stability at risk. On October 15th 1865, Fort Worth arrived with artillery emplacements which allowed for expanded trade between PortArthur and Dallas as well as protection against pirate activity off Mexican coasts since Confederate Captains were still able to sail these waters unimpeded despite Federal laws preventing such contraband commerce from taking place while warships patrolled offshore lanes (Foley). After Fort Worth's departure in 1868, most commercial activity ceased within the city limits while residents continued to farm their lands outside of town until 1900 when they all moved into new homes built around what is now downtown (Koenig). Some residents who remained behind established themselves as a blacksmith shop/factory complex known as "the works", which became one of largest African American businesses in America before being eclipsed by larger Hispanic businesses following World War II when many Afro-American veterans returned home from overseas service and took up business ownership; some local historians attribute this trend towards white predominance to cultural factors rather than racial discrimination (Lopez et al.). Howeverdespite this reversal during post-war years%, various Afroamerican entrepreneurs persisted through various waves of gentrification throughout the late 20th century before finally disappearing completely around 1990 due mainly to changing demographics within adjacent counties includingDallasand Houston(Watson). By 2000 most blacks living within city limits had either left or relocated outlying rural areas (Hernandez) making it difficult if not impossible for them economically to sustain themselves without becoming effectively assimilated into dominant whiteness; although minor efforts continue today[...]

Port Arthur, Texas is a small town in Harris County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1837 by Captain David Fannin and his wife Juana Maria de la Garza. The city was named after the former Spanish settlement of San Antonio de Port Arthur on the Gulf of Mexico. The population of Port Arthur at the 2010 census was 20,887. The first permanent settler in what is now Port Arthur were two families that came overland from New Orleans in November 1836: José María and Vicente Guerrero. They built a small cabin on the bank of the Arkansas River. From this location they surveyed land for a future port and trading post on their return trip across country from San Antonio de Bexar to New Orleans on December 3, 1836. In 1840 Captain James Aikens discovered oil seeps at Red Fork Creek near present-day Waco (now part of Denton) and sent men to explore these potential resources. In 1841 Pedro Menéndez found salt water oil deposits off shore about 8 miles east of downtown Port Arthur. Airmen from Navy Squadron Five reported finding these resources while offloading supplies at anchor outside town in May 1861 during Major General Sam Houston's raid against Mexican forces under Don Carlos López de Santa Anna near Austin Bayou Noose Point; but no wells were developed until 1865 when an American Oil Company exploration team drilled Cakebcake well #1 which produced gasoline for local use beginning in 1870. By 1899 production had increased to 1 million barrels/day with 24 stations producing gasoline for local use along with 6 refineries producing other types of fuel products including aviation turbine fuel and jet fuel In 1898 Mayor John Hogg proposed annexation by Dallas because he saw economic opportunity there as Dallas began annexing more rural counties into its city limits On February 21, 1901 Dallas approved annexation byFort Worth giving PortArthur its own city government although most citizens continued to refer to themselves as "PortArthurians." On October 2nd 1907 President Theodore Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9102 creating an enlarged Department of Commerce within the Department of Justice called then Federal Bureau of Investigation orFBI which merged with Customs Serviceon January 5th 1908 . As part as US entry into World War I efforts were made to build a military port adjacent to Fort Worth so munitions could be shipped through Fort Worth rather than Carlsbad Caverns On July 17th 1922 Hurricane Catrina caused widespread damage throughout Corpus Christi area leaving much infrastructure destroyed including Ship Channel Bridge which opened up again late that year just before Christmas making it possible to ship goods inland without fear of damage In 1930 Census counted 25,693 residents living in 291 structures here consisting mostly farm homes with some additions such as churches and stores over time particularly during prohibition era when many businesses closed due lack Of available labor wink wink
