The Port Arthur Massacre of 1876 was an event that took place in the town of Port Arthur, Texas on April 6th, 1876. The tragedy occurred when a group of civilians were killed by Confederate forces during the Battle of FortBrown. Eight people had died as a result of the massacre and another 36 were injured.

The ordinance also required all citizens to present their licenses whenever they bought, sold, or possessed any firearm.
Port Arthur, Texas is a city on the Gulf of Mexico in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 913 at the 2010 census and is expected to grow to 1,600 by 2020. It is bordered by Corpus Christi to the north, Sam Houston International Airport to the east, Refugio Island to the south, and Galveston Bay to the west. The first settlers in what is now Port Arthur were families from Louisiana who arrived in 1845. They founded a town on an island in Galveston Bay that they called "Natchez". In 1848, they built a fortification near what is now downtownPort Arthur and named it Fort Worth after George W. Dallas, founder ofDallas County, Texas. The town grew rapidly and by 1871 had 1,500 residents. In 1875–76 an act was passed which provided for creation of a county within Harris County; as a result of this effort, Fort Worth became known as "the county seat." In 1909-10 an act was passed providing for establishment of a port on Galveston Bay with warehouses and wharves for storage purposes; this led to the growth of downtownPortArthur from 100 people in 1911 to 2,500 people by 1920 when construction began on what would become one of America's largest shopping malls - Sam Houston Shopping Center - anchored by Sears Roebuck stores and JCPenney department stores. In 1924-25 Samuel Luntz designed two large buildings at Seventh Street and Brazos Avenue which served as administrative headquarters for all oil production operations at Port Arthur until 1966 when those functions were dispersed among various regional offices established throughout Texas under then Governor John Connally's administration (see also TX Department of Commerce). As part as part of its regulatory role over oil explorationTexaco leased land located between First Street/Brazos Avenue and Second Street/Houston Ship Channel where it constructed several thousand barrels per day (bpd) crude oil pipeline under contract with Royal Dutch Shell company until 1978 when that right was sold back to Texaco parent company PBF Energy plc., still operating today as ExxonMobil Pipeline Services Incorporated (). Luntz Place also contains office space used by both State government agencies (including Austin State University)and local businesses including law firms Kravis Roberts & Co., Moody's Investors Service LLP and HoulihanLloyd Co.; while anchor tenants include Macy's Department Store (now Macy's Hellenic Collection), Sears Holdings Corporation (), Saks Fifth Avenue ()and Neiman Marcus (); additional retail tenants have included Belk (), JBL Audio (), Home Depot (), Penney ()and Kroger (). It has been reported that many iconic structures such as the old Sabine Warehouse building located just south of downtown are being threatened with demolition because their value exceeds $1 million but no action has yet been taken against them.(See also: News article "Sabine Warehouse Threatened With Demolition But No Action Taken)" .

After he died in battle, his mother donated money toward building a military cemetery in honor of her son. Today, there are still remnants of Kenedy’s battle fortifications around town. Today, PortArthur is home to many businesses and cultural attractions that help make it an interesting place to live or visit. Its downtown area is full of historical buildings that have been used for various purposes such as stores, restaurants, nightlife options and more. There are also several museums located within walking distanceof each other which offer different typesof programming about local history and culture. Additionally, there are several golf courses located within close proximity to provide plenty of opportunities for visitors to enjoy some fun while living in an interesting city!

In 1845, Texas seceded from the United States, and Port Arthur became an independent country. The town continued to grow, and by 1872 it had become a large city with over 100,000 residents. In 1907, Port Arthur was designated as the capital of new Texas statehood. It remained that way until 1923 when Austin replaced it as the state's capital.
