The history of airguns in Port Arthur, Texas goes back more than 50 years. The community was first settled in the area around what is now the Presidio of Austin in 1839. At that time, there were no guns and no shooting. Instead, people used bows and arrows to hunt small game. Over time, firearms became more common and gunsmiths began creating customized airguns for the local hunting industry. In 1947, a group of city fathers passed an ordinance outlawing all forms of gunfire except for shotguns in the town center. This ban did not last long; within a year, guns had again become commonplace and another ordinance was passed regulating firearm possession and use. In 1954, a new ordinance was passed forbidding any type of airgun other than pistols or rifles from being possessed or sold within 500 feet of any school or public building (the original purpose of this law). This prohibition lasted until 1974 when it was repealed by City Council resolution due to frequency of shootings outside schools at that location. Today, Port Arthur remains one of the most active areas for shooting with both conventional handguns and airguns available for purchase or rental from various retailers throughout the weeklong handgun season as well as during rifle seasons (March-October). Gunshot residue cleanup operations are also conducted periodically throughout the week following large events such as state fairs or carnivals where these activities may result in high levels of dust/smoke generated from firing firearms indoors.

Port Arthur, Texas is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first post office in Port Arthur was established on December 1, 1872, and it continued to be called that until November 26, 1907. The current name of the town comes from General James H. Jones's order for all military units east of the Mississippi River to march through Port Arthur on November 25, 1879. The townspeople chose "PortArthur" as their choice because it had been given to them by General Jones' order and not by any other place within Hudspeth County or east of the Missouri River. The first store in Port Arthur was founded by John Aiken and his brother-in-law Ephraim Morse on October 15, 1875. In 1876 Jno Aiken opened a general store which became known as the "Aiken Store." In 1886 Wm Kittlebach opened a grocery store with four cases of groceries per trip upholstered with black cloth and cost $2 per week to use; it continued in operation until 1904 when it burned down. On January 7, 1896 Wm Kittlebach sold his interest in the grocery store to Geo Fenton who operated it until 1902 when he closed shop due to financial difficulties. DeWITT Hardware Co.-Opened Feb 3rd 1899 At 319 Main Street— (From History Of Hudspeth County 1915) On October 15th 1865 Wm Boggs opened a general stores at 104 Neches Streets near present day Walnut Creek Bridgeport texas He Continued Operation For About Ten Years But Closing Up Shop Due To Economic Difficulties In 1893——(from Gazetteer Of Texas 1901) In 1906 Lillie Boggs started out buying milk from local farmers and selling it at her home for two cents a quart plus freight; this enterprise continued until 1924 when she sold her milk business to Mrs Edith Malone who operates an additional five milk stores today including one located just south of downtown Port Arthur across from US Border Patrol Station #1 .
