They named it Villa de las Rosas ( COUNTY OF ROSES) after Count Eduardo Flores de Leon who had been sent to explore that region by Spain's King Philip II with instructions to find new land for Spain which extended from California northward to Canada and eastward to Siberia In 1851 Planning Board recommended incorporation of Plano with its current name of Garland because it then sat on surface water rights along Trinity River which would be drained if developed as an agricultural center like Cedar Hill or Irvington Garland was incorporated as a town in 1900 In 1912 farmland along Trinity River was donated by Wm Crain who also founded Wichita Falls cattle feeder stations; this raised money for early Plano development including Town Hall building completed in 1915 In 1916 zoning changes allowed retail stores so planters could sell food directly to consumers rather than selling through merchants The first post office opened at 5222 S Elm St on October 7, 1916 serving residents of Garland and parts of Richardson

Plano, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Dallas County. The population was 527,309 as of the 2010 census. It is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, which has a population of 2,555,909. Plano was founded on November 16, 1875 by John Hance and his brother James Hance as a wagon stop on their way to Fort Worth from Wichita Falls. On December 15, 1875, James Hance approved a plat for the town that included 7 blocks square with four streets running north-south and one east-west. The first structure erected in Plano was an adobe house at 6th and Elm Streets built by George Witherspoon and his family after they arrived from Wichita Falls on October 15, 1876. The discovery of oil in 1901 led to aggressive drilling operations throughout North Texas and Plano became known as "The Oil Capital of the World." In 1902–1903 oil production reached its peak with production estimated at 1 million barrels per day (bpd). However due to competition from other energy sources such as gasoil and coal, oil prices began to decline in 1907; by 1913 they were down 50%. By 1920 production had been reduced to 1 million barrels per day (bpd) but continued until 1926 when it ceased completely due to increased competition from natural gas development offshore across the Gulf Stream Sea
Plano is located in Dallas County, Texas. It was formally incorporated as a town on November 15, 1867. The first post office was established in the town on December 1, 1868. By 1889, the population of Plano had reached 10,000 residents and it became a city on January 1, 1901.
