In 1860, James Polk designated Plano as a townsite on the east side of Fort Worth Creek due to its strategic location midway between that city and Dallas (Houston then lay southeast of Fort Worth). The town site grew rapidly with immigrants from Mexico and Spanish-speaking countries who arrived seeking food opportunities in this new land of opportunity for their descendants. After annexation by Dallas on November 3, 1907, Plano became one of its original cities Limits on December 1st of that year along with Arlington Heights which had been annexed two days earlier on October 25th following a referendum conducted by City fathers and residents Plano experienced rapid growth during World War II as thousands of American servicemen returned home after serving in Europe and Asia. Businesses mushroomed as soldiers bought homes or rented them while they lived overseas; some even converted barracks into dwellings while they served their time out there The percentage increase from 1941 through 1950 was 384%. During this period many well-known businesses located downtown such as Kress & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Anderson Furniture Company (AFC), Texaco Incorporated (later ChevronTexaco), Coca Cola Refreshment Corporation (Coke) made plans to move into downtown areas when war ended so that business could continue during peace time In 1951 CDM Development Company acquired much needed property off Elm Street just south of Post Road for future development including an airport/mall complex known today as Parking Garage I - 11 . This integrated airport project included an office tower/multi-purpose facility housing corporate offices for Southwest Airlines(LUV), Kay Bee Industries(KBI), Phillips Petroleum(phillipsp) etc., passenger Terminal 2 with apron circling the entire building servicing retail Airport madness until it was closed down by law enforcement in 1978 when Interstate 15 replaced it By 1984 over 80% of all business within 5 blocks had moved out since WWII leaving only 10% left Downtown only Now 10 years later plano has started to rebound again but know still has work to do

Plano, Texas is a city located in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. It was founded by Baptist missionaries in 1876. In 1916, it became the capital of Dallas County and continued to serve as the county seat until 1960. Plano is now a suburb of Dallas. The area that would become Plano was first settled by Native Americans in the eighteenth century. The Mission San Francisco de Asís (founded in 1798) helped to develop what is now Plano into a town on the banks of the Trinity River. By 1876, many Baptists had moved to this area from other parts of Texas and began to build homes here. This growth led to the erection of a public school system which opened in earnest on October 25th, 1887. Plans for an even more extensive school system were made but did not come about because cooler weather resulted in fewer students coming to classes and Richland County decided that it would be better for them to remain an independent municipality instead of joining with Plano. In 1916, after years of planning and fundraising by local citizens, Houston met its goal of becoming the new county seat and Plano became part of that jurisdiction instead. However, due to its small population size – only 1,500 people at peak – Plano did not benefit from any significant development initiatives undertaken byHouston during its formative years as county seat or thereafter; indeed, most major infrastructure projects were limited or absent altogether until after Houston annexed nearby Arlington Heights in 1961 following their merger with Dallas COUNTY! Incidentally (and rather ironically), while both cities maintain some degree of autonomy today under City/County government rules (i.e., zoning laws & spending priorities), they still share certain key socio-economic characteristics including large concentrations of white collar jobs within each city limits; high rates for home ownership &mortgage rates; close proximity to downtownDallas & several major shopping districts; & relatively affluent demographics relative thereto). The end result has been something quite unique among American metropolitan areas: While both cities have seen modest levels of suburban growth over time (+1% per year since 2000!),Plano has enjoyed nearly twice as much total residential real estate listings added between 2005-2010 ($205M+) asHouston (+67M+). Conversely (and somewhat surprisingly), whileboth municipalities continue to attract significant numbers (~75% white collar jobsites within their borders) / ;& high rate(s) for home ownership (& mortgage rates) / ;& relatively affluent demographicsrelative thereto); Plano’s rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods have attracted noticeably less professional employment thanHouston’s East End/ West Side );albeit with some very high densities (>100K residents per square mile). Additionally (); while both cities service excellent schools ( collectively rated “A” par excellence by national rankings ), PLANO’s streetscape lacks some key amenities such as sidewalks or bike lanes which are sorely needed throughout Southwest Dallas ; whereas HOUSTON offers a wealth OF parks (), making it easier (& cheaper) for residents & businesses alike TO commute into DowntownDallas each day!

After Plano's decline in population during the 1920s and 1930s, it regained some of its former prominence as a financial center throughout Southwest Texas. However, today much of the downtown area is vacant and uninhabitable because of fire damage caused by arsonists.
