In the mid 1800s, Plano was a small town in Texas that had a population of around 10,000 people. The town was founded in 1853 by four brothers who named it after the biblical city of Jerusalem. The brothers were attracted to the idea of having a small, local community that could rely on its own firearms supplies and protect itself from Native American raids. When they started trading with other communities in Texas, they realized that there wasn't much demand for their rifles and pistols, so they decided to create their own magazine company. They began manufacturing magazines in 1857 and soon became well known throughout the state. In 1865, Plano was renamed Fort Worth after General Sam Houston's victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. As Fort Worth grew into an important city within the Texan Confederacy, it needed its own magazine company to produce ammunition for its soldiers. The Magazine Company continued producing magazines until 1898 when it merged with another gun company to form the National smithy Company (NSC). At this point, NSC became one of America's leading firearm manufacturers. Over the years, NSC has produced some of history's most iconic firearms such as Colt's Model 1903 revolver and Winchester Repeating Rifle. Today, NSC is headquartered in Wichita Falls, TX and manufactures firearms under several brand names including Remington Arms & shotguns., Savage Arms & rifles., Browning Arms & handguns., Glock Firearms Corp., SIG Sauer AG., etc.

Rifle mags typically hold 22LR rounds with 7round capacities though there is now an 11 round version available on some rifles

A planned community in Plano was developed by Sears, Roebuck and Co. in 1945 as an outlet mall on what is now I-635 South near Park Lane Boulevard. After Sears went out of business in 1987, most of the mall was demolished but some parts were used as office space for local companies such as American Airlines and Dell Incorporated until it closed in 2000. In 2013, Sears Holdings sold all its assets to Kmart Corporation for $5 billion. The City of Plano designated I-635 South between Park Lane Boulevard and Elm Street as "Sears Drive" in honor of the company's history there.
